Anybody catch the new Magnum PI? The whole thing is pretty much the same as the old show, right down to Zuess and Apollo, the two dogs that hate Magnum. If I remember right, the multi colored helicopter is the same one. One big exception is that Higgins is a woman.

I just watched the first episode and I guess it was OK. I just can't accept that Magnum isn't Tom Selleck. He just doesn't have the same presence as Tom Selleck had. It just doesn't work for me. The show would be ok if I had never seen the original one.

Hi,

The original Magnum P.I. was a personal favorite for years. Much of that because a) it was a Belasarius production, which meant it was pretty much a whimsical romp far beyond reality thru the whole show; and b) there seemed to be a tremendous chemistry between most or all of the cast.

I watched the first episode of the new Magnum, and it's missing both those important features (over and above the fact replacing the characters as played by Tom Selleck or the late John Hillerman is pretty much impossible.) Hawaiian scenery's always good on screen, but there's plenty of that with the remade Hawaii Five-O, which seems to have done the opposite: taken a previously serious show and turned it into generally unbelievable fun!

Never liked the original. Selick's whiny voice alone was enough to make me reach for the control. His 'acting' skills were abysmal then too. He's gotten better with age, unlike most of us But he has gotten better parts too. Except for his gay movie that is...

I wonder if they will remake the episode

I loved the first one and was seriously underwhelmed by the new one. Probably won't watch it again.

About the same? Not really even close. A young chickie as Higgins and not the same humor as the original. The only thing I liked were the cars and the scenery.

Karnak The Magnificent (Johnny Carson) joke:

Answer - Magnum PI

Question - How do you say "I really gotta go" in Latin?

Read my post again. I said the one big exception was the young chickie as Higgins. Evidently that didn't sink in with you.

I watched it, and will watch it again. My wife and I both enjoyed the original and as long as she wants to watch this one I'll watch it with her.
Personally, I think Selleck was a better actor as Magnum than he is in Blue Bloods. He played Jesse Stone in the Robert B Parker movies, and the commish character is a total replay of Stone, imo. Same lack of humor, always very serious and cerebral, yada, yada, yada.

.
I would have watched it but we don't have a tv.
These old remakes are one of the reasons why.
Well, and the rest of the programming too.
And the commercials.
But I digress.

I watched it until they introduced Higgens as a woman. That was enough to know it would be a waste of time to watch anymore.

Hi...
Never watched the original and won't be watching this one either.
Nothing against Tom Selleck...seems a good guy and I enjoy his westerns, particularly Monte Walsh.
