loose barrel syndrome!

Hey you guys,
Just picked up an old Standard Model at local gun show from a seller that I have seen many times before.
He indicated he was original owner and had never fired pistol.
Pistol looks pristine. Pistol has slight wiggle between barrel and lower that I have been reading about from some other posts. So, now I know how to repair it if required.
Question is : Can this condition occur in firearm that has not been fired or fired very little?
I don't know what to think but like to exhaust all possib ilities before questioning the guys scruples....

Hey come now boys Is this conspiratorial? Not even one reply.
Okay, so today (sat.) I go out back to try the gun out,
Mag feels right, bolt comes back proper, albeit somewhat of a lighter pull than expected, when I squueeze trigger Click .. Eject complete round try again same thing click, as if firing pin not connecting..
This gun is going back at the next gun show.
I intend to use words like miscommunication and misunderstanding etc.
The guy told me that he was the original owner and that the box had disinegrated over the years etc .

I need encouragement at least..

Gun show guy reimbursed full purchase price with apologies..
My faith is restored, and I am shopping for fair value Mark 1 or Mark ll.
In the price range of 265.00

middlefork, Welcome to the forum. Barrels usually don't get loose from shooting on those, they get loose from being taken apart a lot! Believe what people tell you at a gun show with a "jaundiced" eye! I recommend you take it to a local "competent" gunsmith and have him check it out for you. He could evaluate it for you and should be able to secure repair for you. Notice I said "competent"! Ask around if you don't know one in your area....................Dick :wink:

I have a stainless Mk2 that I have shot alot..alot of ammo out of. 550round boxes at a time and the barrel is as tight as when I purchased it.

I did break the firing pin it fractured about 3mm from the tip.
I probably could have called Ruger but I bought one online from brownells I think. Either way, tear it down and inspect the firing pin for damage.
