Lightweight Commander Thin Grips

Bought my dad a set of the Lightweight Commander "Thin" grips for Fathers day. He liked them so much on this LW Commander he wanted a pair for the standard commander. Grips arrived...not an easy change out. Apparently there is a steel insert in the grip that needs to be changed out...with the help of a gunsmith, maybe-according to Ruger. Why can't things ever be easy?

"Thin" grips use a thinner style grip bushing. Brownells has both bushings and screws.

To go to thin from standard you almost always have to change out the bushings. Usually not an easy job.

Yeah...thats what I'm hearing. Why doesn't Ruger put that in the description of the thin grips?

Because they are different. A bushing wrench makes it as easy as turning a driver. Ya gotta have the right tools of course.

Unless Ruger is using some special kind of bushing all it takes is a wide flat screwdriver.
