Lettering/verifying brass framed SBH?

Will Ruger customer service still verify a factory brass framed OM Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag? I have one with the "80" serial number prefix that I have had for years, but not sure if I ever contacted Ruger regarding its legitimacy. It does have the "MR-3DB" marked brass frame, so it should letter...just want confirmation.

If you're the only owner and bought it new with the brassy, yse it will letter. It is an original Ruger brass grip frame, but could have been easily added if someone else owned it before you did. It even could have been dealer installed but I think that's remote.

I'm not the original owner, but even buying it "new" apparently isn't a guarantee...I've read of a few dealers in the early 70's who were swapping out frames on brand new guns, and adding factory brass frames from Ruger.

I'm just curious if Ruger will still verify brass guns over the phone.

Over the phone,,,, maybe. In a letter,,,, usually they print the model info,,, such as S-47B. Only the letter will verify it. However,,, if you have the serial number,,, we have a list in Dougans book that can give you a pretty good idea if it's legit or not. However, for sale purposes,,, I'd get the letter.
If you want me to look it up, PM me the serial number.

It's well worth the $10 to have it in writing from the manufacturer, on their letterhead. Otherwise, when you go to sell it ..... it's only a story.

There recently was a 357 brassie on the forum that was in Dugan's list, but a factory letter didn't confirm it, just said it was a 357 Mag. I just got two letters on guns back, and neither one had a catalogue listing, like BKH34 or RSS4X, which they were. Ruger's really changed what they give in the letters, but maybe you'll get lucky. Be a good test if it is in Dugan's book like Contender said.

HH, waiting on a couple of letters. I hope they include the model information. Not just Single Six and Blackhawk. Last one just stated Single Six.... We can read this info from the main frame.

If you request the letter, you might try specifically requesting the model # which will verify the brass frame frame if it is original.
