Before Matt Dillon walked the streest of Dodge City, or frequented the Long Branch on TV, Gunsmoke was a radio program. (William Conrad beig Matt Dillon then.) And one of his most famous lines was:

"Chester, get a shovel and bury him."

And, no matter where they were, Chester always seemed to have a shovel to bury the late outlaw/hardcase/gunfighter/miscreant. Old Dodge must have been well supplied with graves. Maybe they were exhumed later and transplanted in Boot Hill?

And, wonderin' further: On the radio, did Chester have a gimp leg? And, was it ever explained how that happened? To Chester, not Dennis Weaver. Seems I once heard it was the result of a bullet wound?

And, John Wayne always pronounced that word as "boury."

And Richard Boone was perfect with that always hint of a threat about him. Quick with a gun and ready to use it. And he played a doctor in the series "Medic."
And I believe he was the Marine colonel in "Halls of Montezuma." And he had a cold in his nose in that movie.

Ohio! Way too freakin' close to the city!

Maybe the first time Chester refused "Chester, get a shovel and bury him.", Dillon shot him in the kneecap!

As I recall a "palladin" was a legendary travelling knight. Supposedly one of the "Twelve Peters?" A mite obscure in my memory. Suppoded the basis for the chess knight on his holster.

I remember the opening scene of Paladin as a kid. When he pulled his gun and pointed it at you, no matter where you were sitting in the room, it was always pointed directly at you. Amazin' huh?

Let's not forget the best actor in the Richard Boone, Paladin series = Rafter, his horse. After all if it wasn't for him, Paladin would never have gotten anywhere! ;)
This morning, I watched the Bushwhackers with John Ireland. I have not seen it since I went to the movie theater in 1951. For some strange reason, I always thought John Ireland was left handed, but he wore the gun/holster he eventually picked up, on the right side.
Dale Robertson's character, Jim Hardie on Wells Fargo wore his gun on the left side although he was right handed, because he wanted to set himself different from all the other TV cowboys at the time.
Paul Newman as Billy the Kid played him as being left handed and Newman was left handed!
