It's not just my imagination

I've read comments here and there about the "woke" nature of TV ads, but last night I paid attention to ads, something I normally don't. Most of the time I record TV shows that I am interested in, then watch them later, fast forwarding through the commercials as quickly as possible. But last night I ended up watching a few hours of network TV and had to endure the commercials. It's not just my imagination that White people are disappearing from these ads for the most part. Ad after ad featured, or primarily featured Black or Latino appearing actors, with an occasional Asian thrown in for good measure. While White people were not usually totally left out, they clearly were not made the primary focus of the message. And where couples were shown in the ad, overwhelmingly they are mixed race couples, and almost always a White man with a Black woman.

On one hand I don't object to some of this since I have an adopted bi-racial son who is married to a White woman, and their two boys are bi-racial as well. I want these grandsons to have every opportunity to succeed in our society and seeing bi-racial couples and children in ads will help make it more normal for them in the future. But on the other hand, we are still a primarily White nation, and watching TV would make one think that we are primarily a Black nation with a White minority. It just irritates me to see the obvious pandering by corporate America to the "woke" activists that still falsely portray America as a nation dominated by systemic racism that denies opportunity to Blacks and other "people of color" (but don't you dare say "colored people").

Not anything that I can do about this, except to try to avoid spending my money in support of any of these "woke" companies.

Years ago I noticed if the commercial had an idiot in it. The idiot was always a white male. The only group that wouldn’t complain. Its gotten progressively worse.

We either need to start complaining or ignore it.

I’m also not a bigot or a homophobe. Just an observation.

The ones that irk me are the ones that depict the kids as being smarter than the parents. My kids have been trained by media and their teachers. That I’m a moron.

Forget that I pay all the bills, fix what breaks, etc. But I’m the moron?

@vito, your family situation is what makes and has always made this country great. We are a melting pot. God Bless you and your family.

Vito I have noticed , I am not racist and try not to use any hurtful words but I’m not changing my vocabulary . And I have commented for at least 10 years are they gonna change the name naacp ?

Most of the businesses that are trying to sell us all this junk we don't need have figured out us 'white' folks have already drunk the kool-aid and are hooked and so now they are going after other groups....

YUPPER, it's indoctrination plain and simple. People like myself who have 'issues' with this behavior are forced to endure these intolerable displays. This is one reason I watch mostly older TV shows so I only have to endure the endless ads for ED, diabetes, and incontinency products.

Public education in many areas of the country has been stifling critical thinking skills. They teach kids what to think, not how to think. Many ads are an extension of this, "teaching" the viewer what to think. I like to think that those possessing minimal critical thinking skills are able to see through this.
