Itching again......

Been blessed with an itch that occurs before something happens. Like buying SKS's in 98 for less than a C note and 1000 rounds for $130 as well as MRE's for $20 a case. November 1999 these items were fetching $400, $450 and $100 respectively. Had that same itch and bought .22lr @ $18 for 550. Believe me I bought plenty of these items.
Now I have that itch to "load out".
By that I mean to use the reloading supplies I have to load every round possible. For the last 2 months I have been reloading daily from .380 to heavy 45/70. It will take me another two months to load out using the brass, primers, projectiles and primers I have. Often I reload a hundred or four daily.
Yes, I am a hoarder. I buy supplies when prices are low.
My great grand children will be using the loads long after I am gone. My reloads are tailored for each firearm and extremely accurate.
My point, is anyone else feeling the itch? Just something that cannot be reasonably explained?
Up coming election perhaps? The civil unrest? I cannot put my finger on it but the itch is there.

I had it for a little while last year. I loaded a good bit of the components that I had for ONE caliber...then, all of a sudden, I got the "shoot" itch...and "so it goes" as Wil Terry is fond of saying.

I got that "itch" many years ago. Then,, after seeing how estates handled ammo, I quit trying to keep all my brass loaded.
Reloads can not be sold as ammo. BUT,,,, the powder, the bullets,,, the brass & the primers can ALL be sold easily. You mention your great grandkids & all, but they may not be inclined to do so. Better to have salable stuff.

I've loaded heavy on 9MM & 45 ACP. They are all lead loads. Loaded heavy also on 223 plus several 30/30. Like you I have plenty of components.

I've been stocking up on every caliber I own. Nothing fancy, just stop in whatever store I find myself close to and see what they have. A couple of boxes here a couple there will add up nicely over the course of a year or two. Ain't into reloading just now but I have a friend that does and he said he will load me as much 45LC as I want......

Never thought about keeping supplies for sale after I am gone. Loading out is something I have to do??
I still have a keg of Unique dated 94. I do shoot more than most as I can walk out my back door and have at it. I recently found 500 25/06 brass that I forgot about. They will be paired with the 90gr Gameking bulk bullets I bought from Midway years ago. I have 8 boxes unopened. Still have 4 boxes of Hornady 117gr un opened bought from a gun shop going out of business. Both brands were bought very cheap. Most of the stuff I have I bought because of price and not need.
95% of my pistol rounds are lead. Guess I'm just a nut job living in the woods. :shock:

When you got an itch scratch it by all means.
I do most of my loading in the winter (Maine has cold long winters)
stocked up on brass projectiles and primers years ago. I must confess tho my powder
supply is hurting a bit. But got tons of ammo. ps

I too shoot a fair amount. But I'm still shooting ammo I loaded long ago.

I've witnessed the estates of a few gun guys getting sold. Reloads can not be sold, as they were not made by a person licensed to make & sell ammo. There is a liability issue. Plus,,, would you shoot anybody else's reloads if you were not totally familiar with them & what they did?
I was given several hundred rounds of ammo from estates as they could not be sold. Free ammo. Yet,,, I pulled it all apart & saved the primed case & the bullets.
The widows lost a lot of $$$ because of the inability to sell this stuff.

If I were to suddenly leave this world,,, Miss Penny will have a lot of stuff she can sell. The loaded ammo has detailed info for my sons to enjoy. Luckily, they both shoot. But I now store components vs a lot of loaded ammo.

Getting to what you say is the point of your post.......
I can't say that I've got "an itch", but......it's been perty-plain to me for quite a while that our society has been headed in a direction which will have more 'n more negative effects on me and mine as time goes on. It has also become perty-plain to me that the only real control I have in the matter is to situate myself accordingly.......if ya get my drift.

As to your present reaction to your "itch" relative to "loading out" all the ammo you can.....
Lots of other folks are buying all they can, loading all they can, or both....so hey, you aint alone.Better that than to find yourself suddenly needing a lot of ammo and be thinking "why didn't I do all of that work when I had the time". Point being, componants are just rather useless "stuff" untill they are assembled, so why not assemble them?...after all, aint that why ya bought 'em?

Wife said something today, "you will shoot it up and reload more" DUH!!! Reloading relaxes me. It would be real nice to reload a box or two for enjoyment occasionally. Much more so now that I have neck sizing dies. Really looking forward to loading with chamber fired cases for the bolts! The 25/06 I have was made before the cartridge was standardized and built on a Mauser action. Factory ammo does not chamber as slick. My RCBS dies are full length and also ain't as slick. I did reload some fired cases and only used the Lee collet neck die and trimmed to length. Brother ya cain't even tell there is a round being pushed in the chamber!
I may blast the fully sized 25/06 stuff just to reload neck sized only rounds. Why not, I have plenty of projectiles, powder and primers. Besides I have access to a 300 yard steel range and hitting a 6" steel plate at that range is FUN!
As far as some of my firearms go, certain rifles/pistols and the loads have been left to friends or family that have shot them and admired them. I have it wrote down. (Loaned a many rifles to folks to hunt, including my Preacher) Just the special firearms that I really worked to develop loads. I have the rest with current market value and receipts. Won't matter to me where they go when I am gone.

I need to buy more 9mm bullets. I've discovered several gallons of 9mm brass that's been waiting for at least 6-7 years(bought for under $20 per 1000). Have several 5 gallon buckets of .223 brass that cost $35/K still waiting to be processed. I usually do that during winter but spent too much time hunting last winter-not that that's wrong.
