Israel's Iron Dome

I've been looking over the net for info on this system. It seems to work very well. But from what I've heard, the enemies have been trying to overload the system still to no avail.

What I'm wondering is about the missile launcher. It holds 20 missiles in the box but what I'm wondering is how long it takes them to reload the thing once all the missiles are fired? I can't seem to find any info on that. They have multiple systems like this that keeps them well covered so I guess that's why the enemy can't over load the things. It seems like it would take them a while to reload the things though. I guess maybe they have a truck with a loader on it and just pull up to the box and slide the things in so I guess they probably could do it pretty fast.

I am wondering if the launcher pods come as a unit, and the whole loaded unit is replaced? I have heard that the missile casings fall all over the place.

I'm curious to know how the Iron dome knows which incoming missile to go for when there are several incoming missiles in the same area.

Well, I guess it's so advanced that it focuses its missiles on one target at a time and won't fire at a missile that's already been targeted. I did read that the whole thing is portable and can be trucked to any location as needed. It didn't say how many sites they had but it seems to be as many as they need.

Why the heck would they need tracers when it's a radar guided system?

They've been using Phalanx as shipboard close in air defense for decades. Ground base units only suffer from lack of mobility so they are a point defense weapon. Still, it is a very effective system. Honestly, the only really successful defense strategy is to take out the weapons before they are launched.

Here's the problem. Terrorists don't care how many innocents are killed. And it doesn't matter whose side those innocents are on. Israel could likely target and destroy HAMAS's weapons with relative ease. But the collateral damage would cause world wide outrage.

Actually I find the outrage sort of funny. During WWII the Axis showed no compunction at killing innocents. The response was to bomb and burn enemy cities ending with the use of nukes on Japan. HAMAS is showing this same lack of concern for innocents (in fact they specifically target innocents). Perhaps the rest of the world should just shut the heck up and let Israel take care of Israel.

I read somewhere where someone said that Hamas has an even better "iron shield" than Isreal that guarantees no missiles will reach them. Do you know what it is? All they have to do is stop firing missiles into Isreal and there will be none fired back at them.

Lots of folks could die before they run out.

Phalanx works better at defending a ship than it would structures. On a ship, the incoming missile is a contact weapon so knocking it down 400-500 yards out is good enough. Knocking a rocket/missile out of the sky over occupied ground is still likely to result in damage.
During the first sandbox conflict, we weren't able to stop all the incoming rockets and suffered casualties when several struck troop quarters. The "iron dome" concept is not 100% when the number of incoming exceeds the tracking or launch capabilities.
