We cleaned up the house a little last week and I came across this under a bed. I'm sorry I didn't take any before pictures. Anyway, I thought I'd offer it up as a karma. It's perfectly usable and the inside of the pan shows very little pitting.
I thought if someone would like to try cast iron for the first time, or if they only eat one egg at a time. (possibly two I guess.) Or if you want to melt some lead? I'll give it a couple days if there is any interest at all.
A Google search said this might have been caused by improper storage in a wet environment, or and this was interesting, use over a sulfur rich heat source that was used back in the day. This pan could be from the 1930's to the 1950's.
Here it is in all it's glory... I still had the battery charger out from the previous pan. So this was cleaned using the electrolysis method. I did NOT use oven cleaner, or... (gag) WD-40.
You can see a few spots where the pitting is on the inside...
I tried to get good close up pictures to show the pitting. But I don't have the whole pan. A Number 3 is on the small side, about 6 1/2 inches across. Good for 2 eggs max or one egg and a couple pieces of bacon cut up. Maybe two or three tator tots as well...
...And the bottom. This was not visible before cleaning. Darn why didn't I take before pictures...
