Internet Explorer Alternative?

I'm currently running Windows 8.1 in my laptop.
What browser would you recommend?
How do I install the new browser and dump IE 11?
Will there be any problems when moving to a new browser?

Mozilla firefox
Google chrome runs constantly in the background and seen it infected alot

2nd Firefox, as well as Mozilla Thunderbird for an email client. Easy install for both from the Mozilla website:

You'll also need to install some Extensions and Add-on's , such as a Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader among others to handle video's and other embedded stuff in web pages you might visit. You'll probably be notified the first time you bump into something that needs an add-on or extension to run in your browser window. You can get these via the "Tools", "Add-ons" button once you've installed Firefox.

Easy answer IMHO,
Mozilla Firefox.

Easy to find ,easy to install,been using it for YEARS and love it.

BTW,
After ya install it,don't "DUMP" yer IE 11, Just use Firefox instead.

Having a backup never hurts.

Another vote for Mozilla Firefox: it's been on machines here since XP, thru Vista and Win 8.1. Any complaints I've heard about Firefox are either not a problem for me in particular, or are lower on the aggravation totem pole than some others.

Have used various incarnations of Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, plus some little Chinese thing on one of my phones, over the years as well. I'd keep IE on the machine, too, as once in a while there will be a website that doesn't play well with anything except IE. They're scarce, but sometimes important, like SAAMI's page where one gets cartridge drawings...

Firefox was, for years, my favorite browser together with good old XP. Then one day Firefox started crashing my PC. When I say crash I mean lots of beeps followed by total computer shutdown. I tried loading many different older and newer versions of Firefox to no avail. I finally gave up and went with Chrome.

What if you have both? I have Chrome, ME, and some other multiple user crap as well with 8.1. To be honest I do not know the difference of the OP and the browser. Really, I can tell the difference in a MCP and MCP but am at a loss for this. Honesty sort of.

I'll also jump on the band wagon for Firefox.
I've been using it since it was called Netscape.

Easy down-load/install.
Once installed, just go into preferences and set Firefox as your default. 8)

P.S. I also like Thunderbird for an E-mail processor.

Daughter says the IT dept at UofO (CRAYs) advises Firefox and Tor.
Firefox is secure & fast for downloads (engineering students download massive files from all over the world), and ease of use for non-technical folks web-browsing, shopping, etc.
Tor for online banking and sensitive stuff.
I use Firefox with Boeing & Airbus virtual drawings (lovely real-time changes) and have never had issues.

I'm a Firefox user too, I keep IE11 as Henry Repeating Rifle dot com does not play well with Firefox. I also use Duck Duck Go as my search engine.........................

works better with those .. mostly firefox thouhh

The latest version of Windows 10 test I tried comes with chrome. Not IE.
