How Many Is Too Many?

While I'm not very fearful of being targeted, just for the hell of it I took one of the responders to this thread at random, and based on the response, and spending about five minutes searching this member's profile and other responses in other threads which included a lot of photos, I'm confident I could go to this member's town and spend about an hour driving around using Google Earth or other mapping apps, and find his/her exact house. And I am far from a computer genius.

And the responses indicate that this person has a lot of firearms, so they would be considered a fair target for anyone with larceny in their heart.

While everyone here is perfectly safe from me, we have to remember that this online forum is accessible to everyone in the world with access to the internet, and not all of them are here for the camaraderie, but might be looking for a way to profit from any information gleaned here.

While I am all for the free unfettered exchange of information among like-minded individuals, if I found that one of my parents (or one of my kids) was sharing the extent of information I've seen here I'd be very concerned for them.

So showing that I understand that the OP's original intent was not for everyone to list out all of their valuable firearms, I'll say that of mine, about 20% have not been fired by me. Newer acquisitions mostly, and lack of opportunity to go shooting as often as I used to go, but I intend to fire every one of them, including a couple of real antiques I've recently come across.

Oops, missed the other part of the question:

Favorite Shotgun: not much for shotguns, but I'm pretty proud of my Winchester 1897 Trench Broom
Favorite Rifle: Hard to decide, but I'm kind of vintage, so either my M1 Garand or my Henry 45-70 Lever
Favorite Handgun: probably my NM BH in 45 Colt, but some days my 1911, as I've spent quite a lot to make it a viable CCW.

Come and take em! ;)

I was talking with my parents today. They are thinking of moving into an apartment of some kind, closer to Phoenix. In other words some serious downsizing.

And my wife and I are going to move into 2 to 3 years.

So guns that don’t get shot? I don’t know, it causes great anxiety thinking about moving them.

I guess you guys that “never sell guns” or have more than a simple gun safe can hold. You aren’t planning on moving anytime soon, are you.

Currently, I have more guns than will fit in my safe, and no room to add another safe.

Within the next 2 years I hope to be moving from Utah to Montana, into a newly built house that has a dedicated gun room....

Guns will be moved separately from the rest of everything and moved by me personally....

I am an accumulator turned collector.
I have shot about 25-30% of the guns I have. While I only have 8-10 NIB collectables that have never been shot, obviously 90% plus have been shot before. Kinda hard to get a 70 year old never shot NIB gun!
Favorites to shoot.
Rifle, one of my suppressed 10-22's.
Revolver, NM 357/9mm Blackhawk that the Arizona thumber worked over
No shot guns..............
Gee willikers! The actual proper answer too my question! Thank you. I love my .22 rifles as well... I don't have any large caliber hand guns. Biggest is a .38

ABout the ARs.
I thought the same thing. The rifle room looks a little repetitive. Dare I say boring?

I’m thinking that is two different collections. No way the same guy is that into AR’s and revolvers.

I have to say that at this point I am completely burned out with them. Great weapons, but I would puke if I had to look at someones newest AR acquisition.

I'm with you on the Henry- top notch.

When someone asks me how many firearms I own my stock reply is: Some would say not enough while others (like my wife) would say too many. I have a C&R FFL so many of them wouldn't sell for much and those that need repair aren't worth fixing. At closing in on 80 I really should trim the herd but whenever I sell one I replace it with one (or sometimes two.) My two sons will probably divie them up between them. I do go to the indoor range once a week and after two years away I try to get to the outdoor range once a week as well.

I own a few, never had "too many." Had an inventory built up over 13 years as an 01 FFL. Kept some sold some. "Collected" pre-1982 S&W revolvers for 30 years or so, putting them back as we speak. Guns are "things" and only have value we assign to them. Getting things is important work as a young person, getting them to others to enjoy seems equally important as a relatively old 72 y/o person. Joe

I'm not a collector and every gun that I have ever bought was for a practical purpose such as home defense, concealed carry or marksmanship practice. I have some that are hardly ever fired, and in some cases I keep it because the economic value of the gun is low, and selling it would add nothing to my quality of life so I just hold on to this gun because maybe in the future it will fill a need. If I owned any gun that could sell for several thousand dollars, AND it was not filling a current need, I would certainly consider selling it. But for a gun that might yield me only a few hundred bucks it is my preference to just keep it in the safe for "someday".
I only have one such gun that would bring north of 2K, and that is an inherited 1903A3 from WWII. Of course it will never get sold. It’s going in the family trust for future generations.

It is near mint, with only a little wear at the bayonet lug and all original. It still has the original sling, but the bayonet was lost. It was my wife’s grandfathers. He served in WWI and WWII. Navy if I recall. He lived to be really old.

Made by Smith Corona. My son found an original bayonet for it at a gun show.

All my guns are favorite, although my Colt 1911A1 is my favorite of those. I don’t have that many guns, but I would suggest if one has a billion guns, maybe he should trim down, or maybe not.
If you ave a billion, it’s time to take over a 3rd world country and claim its land and rescources for the good ole’ USA.

Oh wait, I think we are about to do that in South America and end the drug trade and install a puppet government. Now if we could just do the same with our nearest southern neighbor.

I keep seeing these BS videos on YT that say we’ve conducted air strikes against the cartels in Mexico. Those videos are just that. BS. If it were really happening we would hear about it in military circles. And of course, we wouldn’t be talking about it.
