Hottest July here that I can remember. Most days were 100+ degrees with a few days 112 degrees. Can't wait until October when things will cool down.

Cooling trend just started: 95F=down to high 80's then back over 100 on the weekend.

We postponed welding corral pipe today AND SPENT A COUPLE HOURS WALKING A CORN FIELD. Gotta be one of the hottest "easy afternoon" I've spent since I quit baling small square hay bales.

Lately my area of Florida has been like a sauna bath rain in the evening and then the sun bakes it out the next day. Don't recall it being this way in the last 20 years.
Been 104+° for the last 10 days here.
Pikers, all. Summer of 1980 in DFW was actually hot. 60+ consecutive days over 100, and 73 days in all over 100. Highest temperature was 114. Of course, that summer was also the least humid in history, with relative humidity readings more like in Arizona. So it didn't feel much hotter than normal. Interestingly, DFW's winter of 1979-1980 was the coldest in 30 years, and the winter of 1980-1981 was the coldest in 100 years. The Farmer's Almanac later published that DFW's average 1980 temperature was - exactly average. Morals of this story? 1. Figures don't lie, but liars figure. 2. There are lies, damn lies and statistics. I'm sure there are others. As Davey Crockett pronounced upon leaving Tennessee, "You may all go to hell, and I shall go to Texas." And then there was the man who drowned in a river that was, on average, only 6" deep.
I don’t remember a summer with as many days above 100 here in Dallas as this year. Of course I haven’t lived here as long as Johnny-Baseball and his post above.

1980 in DFW was brutal, yet the summer of 2011 had more 100 degree days from what I recall and what is reported on tv and the paper, 71 days.
2011 didn't have the 69 consecutive days of 100 or more or back to back days of 112 that we enjoyed in 1980.

It's unfortunate that the news media always sells viewers that "current" conditions are always the worst, hottest, coldest, driest, wettest, etc. in history. Unfortunately, a modest amount of keyboard historical research (well, until the Lefties hack Wikipedia) would irrefutably prove otherwise. The media's modus operandi is "say anything to attract viewers in order to sell advertising.

It is not unusual to have 100 degree days in Sioux Falls in the late summer. Usually just a few. What is unusual is the humidity we are seeing, and without any rain to speak of. Our winds in the summer normally come from the SW, but this year we are seeing most of the winds coming from the SE, which brings the humidity from well watered corn growing Iowa. Darned Iowegians anyway. 
I think it's been pretty typical here in Mid Michigan a few hot days in the mid 90s.
Right now it's 91 and the heat index is 100 with a warm breeze blowing.
That said, I have an excavator bucket repair that I need to do this afternoon, scheduled it
last week for today and damned if the contractor actually showed up right on schedule a little
while ago. I'm sitting in the AC right now getting psyched up for 3 to 4 hours of being really warm.
Between the torch, the plasma, grinders and the welding it's going to involve sweating and the way it looks
even some colorful language.
Oh well , he pays when it's done and I doubt I'll melt.

Those were the days when the Temperature and weather boxes were located in the MIDDLE of Dallas- Fort Worth Airport !!

Average high temp, here, this time of year, is 106 degrees.
The current temp is 75, with a dew point of 71 (YES four degrees diff).
It started raining at 02:00, and as of now, it has left us with .3 (point three)
inches. - - - This is two hours of no sleep, because of the thunder/lightning.
I LOVE IT!! - - - We are several inches of precipitation behind where we need
to be, and to be catching up . . . . . IS WONDERFUL!
Tomorrow WILL be humid (by ANY standard), but you do what you can do!

Just thinking the same thing. Here in E Texas a lot of farmers/ranchers used the dry conditions then to enlarge and deepen a lot of ponds as it was easier to work on them with the lowerd water levels.

If you are inferring that the middle of DFW airport is an unusually hot location, you'd be wrong. I recall reading news articles written during the 1980 summer which addressed that very assertion. Turns out the thermometers were located on towers in grassy areas of the airport in order to prevent readings that did not accurately reflect the area's temperature.

Not sure what's going on. We live in south Mississippi less than 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. You can count on it being relatively hot and humid with rain showers most afternoons to cool things off. The forecast for the next 10 days is for no day to be over 90 deg F. We'll take that for sure!
