hello their i need some help I recently bought a brande new ruger hawkeye allweather with a stainless steel barrel with matte finsh and i have discovered a bad scartch on it im completly devasted and want to fix this any ideas how to any help would be greatly appecated ty

depends on where the scratch is and that will dictate what , and how one goes about it........on the rounds (say the barrel itself) you can use a small file file and blend in ( remove) the scratch, then using strips of fine emery paper, like you wouild "shoe shine" a pair of shoes,go around the barrel ,again blend it in, and finish off with a 3M Scotchbrite pad.......if its on a "flat" same principle, but have to use a "back up" flat end of a large file or flat piece of hardwood, wrap the emery paper around the end and blend in ,then finish off....quite easy and simple to do on any standard stainless steel finish..........gotta remember the surface of gun stainless steel is relatively soft and easy to scratch,mar, scuff, and nick,BUT cleans up quite nicely..........

im kinda reluctant using a file on it but if thats what its going to take i have to try it its just makes me nervus i hate to make it worse

if you are NOT "handy" with a file, then by all means do NOT do so....we use a fine,small Swiss file and gently round off as needed ,as I said if its "on a FLAT then no way you can get the files at the "spot" ONLY, ( yes, I know there are "off set files" )but the average guy does NOT have those in their tool box or at their work bench, let alone KNOW "how" to use it to blend in and make a repair of a firearm...we been doing this since the mid 1960's and wish I had ONE HALF penny for every job I ever had to draw file or whatever.....
so keep it simple and easy and just 'wet sand' the spot, and TRY to blend it in to the surrounding surface area, wish you were around here, I'd gladly take it out and off for you,,,,we do this ALL the time :roll:

Hey, I've been known to "fix" guns for guys while up there fishing, been a while, used to go visit family up in Val D'Or ,Que, and over in Bancroft,Ont. along the York River.......miss those days, and I just ain't going out of my way to get a "passport"....... :roll:

but take your time, and go slow and easy and you can and will polish that out....fine emery paper and get a 3M Scotchbrite pad...............we have faith in you :wink: (git 'er done.....) :)
