Greetings!
Okla Slim here. I am new to the forum.

I recently acquired a Ruger Mark III .22 LR pistol. I have installed a Weaver Micro Red Dot sight on it. Problem is I can't seem to get it properly zeroed. The dot will not adjust to the top of the front sight. Weaver folks say co-witness with the front sight isn't necessary. Well I am not the first ear of corn out of the field and have an red dot on my M4 carbine. Don't know what else to do. Hope you kind folks can assist this country bumpkin.

Thanks,

Okla Slim

Adjust the red dot for the proper point of impact and forget about the "co-witness crap".
No way is the sight going to "adjust to the top of the front sight" and give you the correct POI.
The reason the co-witness works with an AR is simply because the front sight is close to 2" above the boreline.
I'm of the opinion that you should decide whether you want open sights or an optic and outfit your gun with a single choice.

I have a MK III with a red dot and my front sight isn't even visible in the sight picture.
Same with all my pistols with red dots.

I didn't answer earlier because I have never heard of "co-witness" and I thought I was
reading it wrong when you expected to see the sights in line with the red dot.
I am not a rifle guy so I am basically an idiot on a lot of things related to them.
Unless the front sight is VERY tall I can't see how that would work and even then I don't think I would do it that way.
That little tiny sharp red dot works perfectly all by itself.

Here's mine........

Shoots great like this.

I haven't heard of co-witness either. I do have a couple pistols with red dots on them and after zeroing them in. They shoot great.

On .22's however it is amazing how various ammo will change the point of impact. That is basically the only time I will adjust the red dot.

The gun on the left is a Colt LE6920 of M4 configuration. The front and rear sight all line up at the same time as the EOTech sight. The folding rear sight has no elevation adjustment but when the front sight is adjusted to a 50/200 yard zero with the rear the EOTech lines up with both of them for the same 50/200 yard setting. The advantages are that whichever sights you are using you have the same hold over for both sets also if you remove the EOTech and reinstall it back on the gun all you have to do is adjust it to the front and rear sight and your good to go. Also if ever you pick the gun up and the sights do not match you know one of them is off and needs to be corrected. I have a 22/45 Lite Black with a Fast Fire III and the sights do not co-wittness but I use the same 25 yard zero for both sights. If I want to use the open sights I must remove the Fast Fire III from the gun first and then go through a new re zeroing for the Fast Fire independent of the open sights when I reinstall it.

'Fraid so. Co-witnessing will not work on a Mark pistol.

Take the gun to the range and zero it. Bench rest it if you need to. Usually shooting at 25 feet I can get the RDS zeroed pretty good, then I tweak it for 25 yards.

I just took a look thru my red dot sighted MKII, which is perfectly sighted in to point of aim ( you put the dot on somthing, squeeze trigger and it is hit right on) , can't see the front sight unless I tilt the red dot sight tube way up, then I see it in the bottom edge. If you could get the dot to adjust down far enough so as to sit on top of the front sight you would be shooting into the sky.... at least thats how it looks to me.

Forget a witness...go shooting and dial the groups into the red dot.

Old, olde, olden school here.

Early Standard, B-Square Mount, Tasco ProPoint - my "drive-by" prairie dog shooter..put together before the words co-witness were heard outside of a court room.

Velocitors or MiniMags and a steady rest on truck mirror is magical - usually.

Best.
