Okay, I know this is very little info and I haven't seen the gun in person yet.

I know next to nothing about rifles but supposedly tonight a guy is bringing me one for sale.

It's a Ruger boat paddle / skeleton stock stainless in 270. I assume that means it's the M77 and condition is described as "like new". I see some (used) on Gun Broker asking $595 to $899 but no bids. That's a pretty wide range there.

My son is looking for a deer rifle and think this might fit the bill.

Any ball park thoughts on what it's worth?

guessing $400-600 in my travels. Some lose their mind (and money) over the "boat paddle" stock but I look at it as inferior to later plastic stocks sold by Ruger. With the skeletonized stocks it is all about the rings height to accomodate any shooter who wants repeatable, killing-adequate accuracy

I see top-condition used walnut-stocked 270 M77MkII guns from 399 to almost 600 in blue and stainless. in lots of stores from Minnesota to NY to TX and western states.
A LGS has two laminate-stock 270Win SS Hawkeyes with rings for 550-575 sitting for weeks now.

The craze over boat paddle rifles mostly has to do with caliber from what I've seen. The 270 is one of the more common and I wouldn't pay a premium for one. What's the asking price?

Don't know yet .... he's put me off a day. You know how these deals work with someone claiming they want to sell a gun. It could be near mint for $200 or total junk for $1000.

I agree on the caliber being a factor on price. I like the skeleton stocks, and the 270, 7mm, and 300 mags go for less. The 260's are really high as well as the 308. In great condition with rings, I wouldn't go more than about $550 to $600.

Man. I remember when, not so long ago. Ruger was dumping those stocks bolted onto almost any caliber you could want -- including .264 Win mag -- on fire sale.

I got one in 270 in SS as a 'bad weather gun"/future beater. That thing shot the lights out and on its first trial dropped three exotic deer trophies over a weekend on a free range hunt in FL! (They are staring at me as I write this.) One shot was my best ever running drop of a Sika.

Boringly accurate with the cheapest Win factory ammo too.

But it was unlovely and unloved so I sold it to a buddy as a start up gun for his son.

So much for human nature.

Now they are collectibles! Who knew?

Well ..... darn the luck. :D I'm probably gonna have to buy this gun.

It's about 99%, with the rings and a Bushnell 4x12x40 scope. $500.00 and it will hopefully always be worth at least that.

I'm a sucker for those stocks for some reason. Love my boat paddle stainless 10/22 too.

You won't get hurt at that price! I prefer the MkII in stainless vs the Hawkeye. Can't stand that terrible rough sand blasted finish Ruger puts on em. Love em or hate em , I've always found the boat paddle rifles to be good shooters.
