Yes, I know "value" is hard to establish, but anyway . . .

Thirty years ago I bought a slightly used blue1987-issue Mini-14 with wood stock from a friend for $400. I have no idea what its original price would have been.

It's in essentially like new condition and works perfectly. I added a nice afer-market plastic stock just to preserve the factory wood.

I have no intention of selling it but it would be nice to have some sort of "value" (yeah, I know) today. I'd assume the plastic stock wouldn't have much impact on that.

Chet, any idea?

To start with, I think that it's important to realize that the $400 you spent in 1995 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $840 today, because in effect, that's how much you'd need to get in order to break even......As for how much to ask, maybe this will help: Ruger's suggested retail price for a NIB Model 5801 Mini-14 is currently shown as $1259 and it comes with scope rings, a rail, two 5-rd mags, some tools, a vial of loctite, and a lock....In my experience, an additional aftermarket (plastic) stock adds no value to a used Mini. In fact, it will lower it's value unless the factory wood stock is present also....Just guessing, I'd reckon that you'd be hard pressed to get as much for an older (skinny barrel) Mini-14 as the street price that an up to date NIB version can be had for, which is presently about $1025-$1050 OTD......But I could be wrong. I'm not a collector nor a gun trader. I just shoot em, so that's the only perspective I have on the matter.....In any event, good luck in your endeavors.
