Help identify this 22 L round

I found a few 22 Longs in some of my odd stuff. They are lead bullets, nickle cases, and have the headstamp below. Anybody know the age of this stuff? It says; "Hi Speed" and the "U" in the center.

"U" on .22 brass is, I believe, most often associated with Union Metallic Cartridge (UMC), which was a subsidiary or trade name of Remington. That's my best guess, anyway. :?

Yep, an old Remington.
A long you say? They've been out of production for quite a few years,
I have a bunch of them stashed away, I'll have to dig them out and see if any are stamped Hi Speed.

I knew it was a UMC (now Remington,) but I was asking for the age,,,,! Anybody?

May dad told me when he was a little boy he used to build bi-plane models out of orange crates. The engines were made of tinker toy hubs with nickle plated 22 short cartridges for cylinders. I suspect the nickle plated cases denoted when the ammo companies went to non-corrosive priming. I would suspect these were made sometime in the late 1920's to early 1930's. Dad was born in 1916.

Here is the same stamp but not nickel. I'm thinking these are form the early 60s and yours are close to that period.

Thanks Sarge! As I said, I knew they were Remington, but the stamp, along with the fact they are nickle cases, stumped me. I was thinking the 60's but not sure.

I had a 22 rifle chambered for long.
Seems like I was still finding long till into the 70's.
But, they were getting hard to find. Rifle wouldn't chamber LR and I shot shorts through it a lot.

I remember my Grandfather had some nickle cased 22 LRs -- This would have been in the mid 50s.

I remember Hi-Speed Remington 22's from the 60's.
