My youngest son, whom I live with, is a maintenance super for a large apartment complex adjacent to Wright State University. Having lived in Riverside his whole life he knows about everybody in town. So naturally he does an occasional job on his on time for friends, heating, A/C, electrical, and plumbing. Usually he gets paid for his time. Today he came in with a nice big meatloaf. Last month he has brought home Cajun seafood gumbo, chicken and dumplings and vegetable beef soup. He says we ain't making much money but we are eating good...

Good thing he is not living in Oregon, contractors would be turning him in to the CCB for not being licensed. But then, supposedly I am not supposed to replace the rail in my back deck with out a permit either! :D

The one fast rule when working in people's homes is never turn down food, especially food they have either grown or made.

Barter works well, I do it from time to time especially if its something I need or want.
Not a darn thing wrong in the barter system altho uncle Sam don't like it. Come to think
of it I do not think much of Uncle Sam right now so that makes us even. ps

A local sign painter had long supported (for about 20 years prior to their divorce) his wife & 2 children (our wives were friends since childhood) mostly by bartering his (plentiful) work for groceries & other staples.
