If we weren't gun nuts none of us would be on any gun chat site. How many sites are there where people discuss whats the best hammer or tape measure?

I don’t object to high priced guns. I object to OVER priced guns. There is no AR15 worth three grand. A top grade 1911 may be worth the money asked. A Les Baer is, in my opinion. A Nighthawk is not. A truly fine shotgun or custom rifle (a true custom rifle; not a reworked Remington with synthetic stock) often is truly worth the money. Tricked out ARs and Glocks priced at four figures are not.

Believe it or not I am a member of a Union Tinknockers group on facebook & from time to time such topics do come up. I actually just commented on a post about whether a leather wrapped handle hammer or one with rubber is better. Personally I prefer a wooden handle as it absorbs shock & keeps it off your arm.

How about some thread drift? ;) I have hammers with wood, fiberglass and rubber, and leather wrapped handles. To tell the truth, I don't do that much work with any of them to consider the shock going into my arm or joints, so I use the leather wrapped one most cuz it's the purtiest of the bunch! It was a raggedy $1 orphan at a thrift shop, but cleaned up nicely.

To a competitor in serious competition like USPSA (PCC division,) a tricked out AR-15 can be expensive. BUT a lot of the things that go into it,, can make them perform like a swiss watch & that's required to be a winner. Or,, if you shoot "Multi-Gun" competition,, again an AR can cost more than many would think. Or heck,,, go to Camp Perry,, and see what's being used on the line for serious competition.
While many of us do not think the guns are worth it,, to a person who wants to be competitive,, they need top notch guns. And as such,, quality builds cost a lot too!
Again,, it goes back to what the needs or wants are that drive the costs. And if there wasn't a want or need,, then the custom builders would not be in business.

Thanks Rick :D , I have all of the above. Never realized about the difference in shock until I spent a day knocking duct together with it in the shop. Left with my arm hurting. It had never happened before. Someone did me a favor & stole that leather wrapped Malco hammer back in '94.
I agree with Contender & the others that already said it. Nothing is worth more than someone is willing to pay for it. These guns might not be worth it to me but they are to someone or the companies wouldn't be in business.
