Hmm, seems to me the only thing in danger was the fish the shark was trying to eat. Most folks have no idea that sharks, even larger ones spend a fair amount of time in the surf zone.
Heck out here we regularly get new bits about great whites in the Santa Monica bay. You'd think growing up in a beach community folks would know that the bay is one of the great whites pupping grounds. When small, they live in the surf zone. They venture further out as the grow. Yep, folks get bit by sharks. Some get killed. Then again, folks get bit and killed by bears yet folks don't loose control of their bowels when one of those incidents is reported the way they do when "anything" (and this qualifies as a non event) shark related gets press.
