Grip medallions

Another post stating the Wrangler grips didn't have medallions installed. I was wondering if anyone knows if just the medallions can be bulk purchased from Ruger?

I have purchased grip medallions in the past. Not sure about the current abilities of doing this. But most likely you can.

You can get them on eBay. Maybe cheaper from Ruger. I ordered several sets from Ruger about 10 years ago.

I order a bunch way back when. I used them to tinker and make grips for the P-series pistols. Ebay was a rip off and I would tell anyone that would listen and some that wouldn't to simply call Ruger. They were cheap. I think a set shipped was under 6 bucks at the time.

Old Mark 2 grips had red medallions. Depending on who you talk to I bet you can get several different styles.

Actually, the early medallions had a red eagle, silver outside. After the death of Alex Sturm, Bill had the eagle changed to black. (1951)
So from 1951 until the 1970's era,, the medallion eagles were black, recessed, and silver outside. Then, the background was black, the eagle was raised & silver. The MKII's were that way, until later, they introduced the raised silver eagles,, with a red BACKGROUND. So, the MKII's never had red eagles,, except for a "one of" special guns.
So, no MKII's in regular production had red eagles.

Never paid much attention to medallions before, but now that it has been brought up...FYI: I have a P345 that has silver eagle with red background and a New Single Six Black Eagle Silver background. In case anybody is making a list...

Ten plus years ago I wanted the Old Blackbird Medallion,,, But built in Brass for a few custom Brass Grip Frame guns I was doing.
Built a Mold for a wax and did a few of these using the lost wax method.
Like the Qualite/ Linebaugh Brass Bisley Grip Frame, I cast one tree, ~12 pcs.
Recently stumbled into a 4 digit (02xxx) Old Army frame & barrel. I bought it for the barrel but when it showed up w/ the first year SN# (1972) and the condition 96%+, could not bring myself harvest the barrel. Over the last few years have been gathering parts to get it back together. The big score was finding a MR-3DB grip frame for a deal. It had been polished using a high speed buffing wheel and it wonkey’d it up bad.
I felt I could carefully , slowly get it flattened/ straighten back out, it turned out great and will make a nice Old Army Shooter.
Found some old walnut SBH grips fit them to the BGF & going with the Brass OM Blackbirds.
It’s all bright and shiny now but the aging/ patina process of time has begun. Will look great in ~10 more years.

Medallions are an interesting item, the old Black Birds came in a early flat frosty silver, while the later were more of a shiny silver. When the new 50th anniversary guns came out the medallion was a very close copy of the later OM Blackbirds, then the bird got squatting and fat, lost its definition, IMO, they look more like a bird turd.

Late 1966/67 was the neck feather Black Bird.

~1972 the bird turned Silver with the what is squashed bird that is very flat & shiny.

Then the “SR” Bird, had that for a long time and it got first colored red with the 1 of 5000 WBR Signature RST4, after started to see more red showing back up, mostly on auto’s, and I the 50th Single Six.

The “SR” Birds have been replaced with the “R” and hard R

Im sure I have missed some details, but to me it’s the DETAILS that matter.
I really enjoy custom made grips, but do not understand why some of the Medallions used.
