Hello to all... I'm new here but not to several other gun forums out there.

One of my partners was a uniformed officer with the NYC Transit PD before joining our current department. In the city, he purchased and carried a Ruger GPNY. I had the opportunity to examine and detail strip the gun today. It's been a safe queen for close to twenty years but is in fantastic shape. Mechanically it is GTG and cosmetically I would rate it highly. There are no dents, dings, burrs or other issues, just routine handling marks.
The frame is stamped GPNY and the serial # is 172-31xxx.
I did some searches here but there is nothing very recent posted. Can any of you guys chime in on the history, uniqueness, collectibility and value of this gun. As far as I know, the owner is probably willing to part with it and we will attempt to sell it.
Any and all info would be much appreciated. In the meantime, I'll get more info from him as to when he specifically got the gun and carried it before transitioning to a 9mm.
Thanks in advance.

GPNY's are becoming quite collectable, but its still highly unlikely it would sell for as much as an NIB .357 GP. Still, I would say you could get a minimum of $300.00, maybe $350-375.00, if you had to cash it in.
