Gp100 timing question.

I have shot about 3000 rounds through my gp100. How do you know when your revolver needs to be re-timed and what does this entail?

When the hammer is cocked, is it easy to 'wiggle' the cylinder by hand?
Does it 'wiggle' a lot? No? Just a wee bit?

(I own two, and both have at least ten times that many rds through them; no issues so far).

It wiggles quite a bit, but I don't really remember how it was when I first bought it. It does some too get a lot of lead build up around the forcing cone and I was just wondering if it was shaving bullets or something.

I mean, if you're really concerned.

I am not afraid of sending them mine; I have (Redhawk, though).

I guess it is not that big of a deal, I am just growing tired of scraping lead deposits off around the forcing cone. They have gotten so bad to where I have to use a metal file to remove them.

Rugers do not generally get out of time, and are not nearly as fragile as S&W. If you slowly cock the hammer (gun empty please) the cylinder should lock into place with the cylinder stop before or at least by the time the hammer reaches full cock and is caught by the trigger. This is for double action guns. It can be your loads or a lot of things, not all of them not normal. Revolvers fired with lead bullets need to be cleaned. If they are hot loads or even light loads with fast burning powders, some of the lead vaporizes and you will get a lead deposit no matter what you do. Undersize bullets will make it worse.

Overly tight throats MAKE undersize bullets when you fire them, so that CAN be an issue. Try cleaning it after each session, and a gentle use of a wire (brass or SS if you are REAL careful on blued gun) brush will normally brush off the lead. The fire rings are going to be there so don't worry about them.
