Having been looking to add a GP100 to my stable, I was fortunate to come across a lightly used Royal Phoenix at an attractive price. I understand that less than 600 of these Python like finished GP100 were made for Lipsey's.
I would be interested in knowing if there is collector interest in these guns and what is a realistic value.

Thanks 48flyer. My gun came with a black front sight. I notice that yours has the red insert. Did you add that to yours?

There is a NIB one listed on gunbroker for $1000 It has been listed before so that would be the highend price
I have heard of them being offered for that price and more. To my knowledge none have sold for those numbers.
I paid a great deal less than that for the one that I own. I've been a S&W guy for the most part but, I was taken by the beautiful fit and finish on this gun. It is easily superior to any current production revolver. My only complaint would be the 12 lb. plus D.A. pull. I suppose that an action job by a good gunsmith could solve that issue rather quickly.

A simple spring change can do wonders.

Good idea. I've been advised not to change the hammer spring only the rebound spring. Is that your experience?

The gun ships with a stock 14 lb mainspring. They should work with a 11 or 12 lb mainspring (both available from Wolff). I have one tuned (not a Royal Phoenix, though) with a 9 lb mainspring and 8 lb trigger return spring but it has been polished inside. The trigger pull is 7.4 lbs DA and 2.5 SA. It works with everything I run through it. So, a 11 or 12 lb mainspring should fire about anything. In stock condition the GP used to come with a 12 lb trigger return spring but some claim Ruger switched somewhere along the line to a 10 lb one. At any rate usually to get a reliable trigger reset some work must be done on the trigger group especially deburring the trigger return spring tunnel in the trigger guard. Whether it resets fast enough after cleaning up has to be determined by the individual.

Actually I am talking about the hammer spring. I like a quick reset so I have left the return spring alone.

I wanted one of those so bad when they came out but was strapped for cash. I should of sold something and picked one up. They are beautiful guns.
