GP100 front sight blew off today.

So a friend of mine just got a new 357 and so we went to the range. Well I have had one of those 4 piece sets in my box for a long time and figured my old eye my like the orange one better than the black factory sight.

Shot 18 rounds and it popped off. Anyone use this site set and have issue? Fluke or ??

I had the same time thing happen with a Redhawk over 30 years ago. I guess they
haven't improved them any after all this time.

I have had that happen many times with my Redhawks, but never my GP100's.

I installed the Hi-Viz fiber optic front sight on mine and it has never moved at all in many, many rounds. However, it's got a steel base, not plastic, so it should be indestructible.

Besides those xxx plastic sights Ruger makes two sights for the GP, one with a red insert and one plain black. I would try one of those or the HI-Viz ones. I notice the Ruger Store doesn't seem to have the plain black sight or the 6-pipe Hi-Viz sight listed anymore. Things come and go I guess.

I have the yellow sight in my GP and it hasn't broken off. Try another color.

I have the steel sight with the red insert. I love it. $20 on eBay, free shipping.

It's happened to me on a Redhawk. The cause is the sharp edge on the plunger that holds the sight in place, cuts into the plastic sight.
You can either switch to a steel sight OR carefully break the edge on the plunger.

You're obviously using way too powerful of a load. Those sights are only rated for 125 grain 38 Special loads (not the +p ones either).

Really? I was shooting 158 grain JHP 357 mag. pretty standard round I thought. Blazer Alum cheapo.
