For a vaquero. Having a barrel cut, thought a front sight dovetailed in would be nice to try on a project.
suggestions? A place to order would be of help as well?

I am also looking for a shorter ejector housing for a blackhawk. Will be a 4&5/8" when done. Can I order these from Ruger some how? I looked around on their site and others but did not see
any.
Basically messing around with several single actions before I decide what I want built to my exact specs

The dovetail sight is easier than installing the standard front blade where you need to mill a slot for it in the barrel. You can file the dovetail front sight by hand, but if you're going to pay someone to do it, I'd rather pay for a slot to be milled, and keep the traditional look of the Vaquero front sight. I've never had to adjust any of my Vaqueros for windage, and if I did, I'd adjust the width of the rear sight notch! So never needed a dovetail front sight.

However, since you want a standard barrel length of 4 5/8" it's always easier and cheaper to find the length barrel you want and just swap barrels, no sight expense and then you have your original barrel to sell. Actually since you want a standard barrel length, it makes the most dollar sense to buy the gun you want and sell yours. Put the money you would have spent cutting the barrel, towards your next gun purchase.

What length barrel does your Blackhawk have? The ejector housings are all the same length 4", except those for the 10" barrel which are 5". Are you changing from an alloy to steel housing?

Recognize that Ruger will send you parts totaling $20 or less for free including shipping. Call (336) 949-5200.

Hope that helps

I guess I will need to explain a bit then. All excellent points, I will try to explain some.
Anyway, multiple different projects.
3 screw in 30 carbine. Not any in 4 & 5/8 that I am aware of. I prefer that barrel length. Now before anyone freaks, This gun is cosmetically a mess. "it was used to hammer in tent stakes" and "kept in a toolbox" but man is it ever smooth. Shoots great. Going to cut it. Just down to the ERH

Another one is 480 ruger. the shorter barrels are going for big money, and I got a a 7.5" for a good enough deal to cut etc. and still be in it better then finding the barrel length I want. So I would like to go to the 4&5/8 ERH on that gun.
vaquero, slot vs dovetail, I am looking for a option for it.

I have a short stainless ejector rod and housing I’d sell.
As for the front sight on the Vaquero, what type of sight do you want? Blank blade? Gold bead? Fiber optic? Brownell’s has hundreds of sights listed.

For your Vaquero, order a .150" wide x .300" tall sight blank and a fine-cut file. Take your time. For the Blackhawk, hit up Numrich and be patient for the parts to pop up.

I am interested. Ruger will not send me one.
The model I am turning mine into is a 0872, does that seem like the one you have? it is a Lypsey's exclusive.

Pushing those long 480 cases out of the chambers with the 4" ejector will take a swift push on the ejector rod, and then you'll likely still need to pull each case all the way out with your fingers. No big deal though. It's not like you're in a self defense situation needing a fast reload.

Like so. IMG_4068.jpeg

Did Ruger say why they won't send you an ejector rod and housing???
Because the gun is a distributor exclusive, they have a limited number of parts and my firearm did not come originally with that length, its a no. They did make the gun in this length so I am sure the ERH will work fine.

So the 4 5/8" version of the 480 is a distributor exclusive? And its 4" ejector rod and housing for it has to be somewhat different from all other 4" housings and rod?
The possible differences I can think of is the curvature that fits against the larger circumference of the 480 barrel. Maybe a larger attachment screw hole?

What length ejector housing does your 480 have? Compare its curvature and screw hole size to a standard 4" housing from another Ruger Blackhawk of a standard cartridge like 44 or 357.

If your 480 housing and rod are different from a standard Blackhawk, but longer, you could just get yours shortened on a lathe.

Sure there's no doubt the 4" ejector will work fine and as designed. I was just acknowledging that it won't push cases all the way out like a longer rod will.

Both the 480 ruger super blackhawks are lypsie's exclusives. They made two sizes. The longer barrel also has a longer ERH
