GP100 cylinder lock up

I just finished cleaning a GP 100 for a friend of mine. I completely disassembeled the revolver per the manual, and reassembled fairly easily. The cylinder however sometimes locks up in DA. can't pull trigger. if I open the cylinder, and reclose it. this sorts the problem out. for a few trigger pulls at least. what gives? I have never experianced this with other GP's. Gun functioned flawlessly before I cleaned it. What did I put together wrong?

Also I noticed that if tap the bottom of the trigger gaurd, this will also unlock the revolver.

Just suggesting, after reassembling mine: perhaps a spring and also maybe plunger is missing in the trigger group.

I appreciate your suggestion, as I am not understanding what is wrong. Would a missing spring or plunger cause intermittent problems? I would think that would cause the gun to not work at all...I will check though. thank you.

replaced trigger spring, Revolver funbctions fine.. To be honest though, I did not think the trigger spring and plunger would cause this problem. live and learn.

The trigger return spring is/was not the problem. Almost surely your cylinder locking pawl was not working smoothly. I would check the tiny springs to see if one of them got kinked during re-assembly. It's easy to damage them.

You are absolutly correct, I do not know why I typed trigger spring. It was the tiny little Pawl spring that was replaced.

The other end of the pawl spring is pushing the trigger plunger(the peice in the trigger that has an arrow head shape to it ) in place , very important for trigger reset.If not pushed forward enuff it locks the action up solid , have seen the trigger bent a little but rare.

Just finished a shim job, spring job (Wolf 10lbs main and 8 lbs. rebound) and a polish job and had the exact thing that GP100man suggested. The problem was the ""trigger plunger(the peice in the trigger that has an arrow head shape to it )"" was not sliding up the cylinder lock piece and allowing the trigger to reset. I polished and polished and worked it and worked it, check the plunger springs, took them out and put them back about 100 times, finally I just put the gun back together for like the 5th time and kept working the cylinder to get it to reset and finally it just started to work fine. have been dry firing all night and it is working fine. I did not put the trigger shims back in. I only have the hammer shims and the hammer dog shims. will see how this works with real ammo and MAYBE go back and put in the trigger shims.

Take the trigger group completely apart to ensure shimms don`t bind it up !!
