It's not a bad gun atall. :)

Best 5-shot group I've been able to get off a rest at 25 was under an inch, which I don't do too often with GPs.

Ruger keeps screwing up my resolve to buy no more guns.

I wonder if this gun has chamfered chambers and a better trigger spring like the SW pro series, like the 686 SSR.

Not trying to be a negative nancy, but it looks to me that this "competition model" has mostly superficial improvements from the standard model, though I might be wrong. I'd change the Hogue grips out anyways.

Factory tuned with comp. springs, shimmed trigger and hammer, chamfered chamber and ejector openings. Pretty well customized right from Ruger.
I just wish it had been chambered in .38 special. I have lots of special brass to use up
and really don`t like shooting lead in special brass in a .357 chamber.

When do you thinks fellar will be able to purchase on of these ????

Mine hasn't quit in 15 yrs.
I think this will be #1 firearm purchase for 2014.

Ruger doesn't announce till they have 'em in the pipeline, but availability will depend on demand.

Just contacted my lgs and they are thinking
they will run about 675. Love my single actions
but I might have to make room for this one.

Definitely on the list. Santa has already got me three this month.
GP100 6" , BH three screw .357, and SS BH Flat Top 4 5/8" Conv. .45
I had better be real good next year to make up for them.

I have asked the Ruger CEO a few times with no response but my dream GP 100 is I would love for Ruger to have a GP 100 convertible with a second cylinder in 9mm (or 9X23 then you could run 9X23, 38 super and 9mm Luger through it) cut for moon clips. For some of us shooters that like using revolvers in some of the gun games I think they would have a hit. Offer it in 3" and 4" (for the IDPA crowd) and 5" or 6" for the ICORE/IPSC crowd

While it is inovative looking & has a custom look & appealing over all design , it`s still based upon this:

I`ve owned & shot manyaGP & this 1 is as smooth & accurate as any I`ve ever touched !

Dang! Not on the 'approved safe gun' list for Ca. :(
Wonder if they will submit it? Seems to be a regular Ruger model, not a distributor special.

It appears to be the "Wiley Clapp" with a new, slab sided, half lug, 4.2" barrel in place of the 3" 'full lug' barrel.
The 'Wiley Clapp' is the fixed sight frame with the 'fixed' Novak sight dovetailed in.
I like the idea that I can put the old style compact grips on it. :D
Now....just to find a way to get it into Ca.

Different frame.
Ruger developed this frame's topstrap for this model.
Aside from the lowered section behind the Novak rear, it's a flattop.
No sight channel.

I'm not able to compare side by side. I'd need to measure to be sure, but it does look like it may have a little thicker top strap from the photos.
I don't know if the fixed sight channel was cast in or machined in on the fixed sight GP models. Wouldn't be too hard, I'd guess, to remove that channel from the lost wax casting process.

I have noticed that the scalloped frame fixed sight Six Series double actions have a thicker top strap - scallop allowed the weight to remain the same. That had to be a completely different mold, I'd guess.

Hope to see one of these competition models soon.

Topstrap thickness, aside from the dovetail, is close enough to the same on both standard fixed guns & the new one to consider the same.
Denis

Too bad it isn't cut for moon clips, for competition you would think they would have invested a little in that dept. I like the profile of the barrel but not the lettering. It looks squeezed in, the font is too large for my taste.

Of course in my humble opinion the only markings on a revolver barrel should be real roll stamps of the maker's name on one side and the caliber on the other.

If I hadn't bought a S&W .357 just last month I would have considered this, it has a lot to recommend it.

I really like this new revolver! I probably won't be a buyer, because my 5" bbl GP100 fulfills my needs. However, if those grips become available from Ruger as an Accessory, I'm all in on that!
