GP 100 @ 44spcl???

It's my dream gun. Love my GP but don't like the 357. Too loud. The larger caliber would also make it better for hunting.

A GP100 in .44 Special is my "dream gun."

(even if it was a ""5-shot" gun, more than one shot is seldom needed if you take that extra second)

The cost, and unavailability of a 5 shot cylinder for the GP-100 makes this a lot less likely than a 5 shot L-frame S&W. A big bore GP-100 would be really cool, though. JMHO

I don't think very many would want to shoot the 44mag in a GP. For those wanting a smaller 44mag gun there are the old S&W model 29 Mountain Guns. I bet they are a handful. S&W has got some titanium ones that will knock the snot out of your hand too. :shock: :wink:

Once upon a time there was a 5 shot L-frame S&W 44 Special, the S&W 696. I saw exactly one and never another.

The S&W 57 Mountain Gun 41 Magnum is just plain nasty with full power 41 Magnum loads, but a real pleasure when downloaded to "police special" levels, about 950 fps. Recoil is enough to literally take the skin off the web of your shooting hand within 50 rounds of full power loads.

If you want an ultra light weight 44 Magnum, Taurus made one and it gained a reputation for super nasty recoil. If you want to shoot one of those Scandium S&W 329s- well have a nice time.

I think the 41 spl is ideal for the GP and you get 6 shots instead of 5. My 696 cylinder from Brownells is awfully thin on the outer edge but the leede notches are offset which makes up for it. S&W still makes 5 shot L frames so Ruger should jump in there too.

How does the cylinder diameter of the .44 Spcl Blackhawk compare to the GP100's?

Give me a double action 6-shot .44 Spcl in a package the size of the Blackhawk.

I've got the Alaskan, but it's just too much metal to haul around for the power level of the .44 Spcl.

Well sounds like others besides myself agree on this GP100 in 44spl. Maybe ruger will suprise use. They seem to be up to a lot these days. Hey ruger are you with us on this ? After all you did just come out with the flat top 44spl, and yes I will take a stainless in 4 5/8. thank you
