Google was just granted a U.S. patent for a new sticky technology they want to apply to the front of cars. The idea is that if you hit a pedestrian with you car, he will stick to the front of your car instead of being launched into traffic where more damage will be inflicted onto his person.

It took me awhile to stop laughing. Can you just imagine the problems with this idea? Insects, birds, sand, dust, and cats stuck to your car, never to come off. Forget about ever washing your car. Just try to get your car cover off. Never lean on your car.

The actual physics of this idea is yet another joke. Your clothes are going to stick, you will still bounce off minus your clothes and a fair amount of skin and hair. If you do stick, how the heck will the medical people get you unstuck? Maybe they can use teflon spatulas. :)

Hit and runs would decrease. Leaving the scene of an accident with a body stuck to the front of car might not be a good idea.

 That's going to give "driving while impaired" a new meaning. " Honest, I couldn't see that truck coming 'cause the guy on the hood kept waving his arms."

How many can stick to the average passenger car? Gonna be a lot of hit and runs, no evidence left behind.

I can just imagine the folks at the U.S. Patent Office reviewing the application. After they stop making jokes and laughing, they decide to approve it so others can also be amused.

Can you imagine arriving at work with your neighbors pesky cat as your new hood ornament.

I see this as a solid indicator of the potential of the engineering talent currently earning a paycheck in the USA.

...to think we once put men on the moon... there are no words...

Maybe it works like those plastic lint rollers. You just roll the cylinder over your clothes to pick up lint and then just hold the thing under running water. It instantly becomes unsticky and all the lint washes off.

When it dries out, it's just as sticky as before. I guess the fire department will be hosing off a lot of front ends at accident scenes. You could probably just carry a small plastic spray bottle for cats, dogs and rabbits.

Better carry one of those plastic spray bottles in a holster on your belt in case you forget and lean on the front of the car with your hand.

He's examining my radiator "through" the front grill... But I honestly don't know where his eyeballs went...
