We have a nephew headed their from Fort Bragg. We got a picture of the plane full of soldiers from his Dad. I’m not sure how that happened since they weren’t allowed to take their phones. They may or may not be routed through Germany.
Edited to add photo.

Not taking phones must be new. Both kids had them back in '03 when things got hot.

Yup, no cell phones, laptops or tablets. It's an OPSEC (Operational Security) measure.

My D-I-L flies the Osprey for the AF Spec Ops and her last deployment was to Iraq. Her group has all moved to Afghanistan just like my sons MC-130J group. They are scheduled for this spring but with things the way they are, it may be jumped up.

Hi,

To all of you who have friends and family over there now or headed there in the near future, prayers come from here in SoCal for their safety. And, as always, please thank them for the jobs they do.

May all US forces safely return! It has to be tough for all families to worry about their loved ones
in such danger...
Thankyou USA & her great folks for keeping all of us safe every day!
Glad you are our neighbours or we would all be Russian...

Every time I see a thread like this I remember a thought that haunted me when both boys headed to Iraq when this began. That thought was "Is this what my dad felt when I left for SEA?"

I pray to God that some day no father will ever have to ask himself that question again.

Don't worry. He'll be fine. Best thing you can do is to not tell him about any drama at home. That will just piss him off and distract from his mission.

I was in Iraq from 07-08 (Mosul and Tikrit). After a while you just get used to it. I returned with all my soldiers and an intense dislike for Arab culture.
