About 15-18 years ago, I bought a Gerber multi-tool at a flea market. From that day forward, I carried it in a belt pouch with a Mini Mag-Lite on the side.

As a Facilities Manager, I use the heck out of this tool quite a bit. In fact, it's taken a little damage over the years. The mini screwdriver tip was chipped and I'd once cut some hard wire that dimpled the cutter edges a little.

The worse thing I did to this poor tool was I'd used to to try torqueing something with the needle-nose pliers. Well, I'd twisted it a bit too far so that the nose jaws were slightly out of alignment. They still functioned, but the misalignment bothered me.

About 2 weeks ago, while on a conference call, I was monkeying with the Gerber and another pliers and tried to twist the jaws back. Well, with surprisingly less pressure than I'd figure, the one jaw snapped off!

I thought, "oh well...sorry Old Friend, we had a good, 18-year run...I guess I need to get on the Gerber website to find a replacement..."

I then saw the menu item to check out their Lifetime Warranty. I clicked it and read about it. It instructed me to fill out their online form. I filled it out and told the story. They issued me a claim number and instructed me to send the tool in to them.

I figured, at best, they would replace the jaws and maybe the mini screwdriver, because their standard tools seem exactly the same.

However, a few days ago, I received a brand new Multi-Tool 600 Scout (needle-nose).

So, even though I broke the tool, doing something clearly not within the use, Gerber saw fit to take care of me. For that, I believe them to be a class act, A+ company. I wanted to share my experience to give the company a bump.

They offer a very large variety of tools and knives. I believe good Customer Service gives them an edge (pun intended) and worth a look.

Full disclosure: I also have an original Leatherman Super Tool that I take as part of my hunting gear and love it as well...

That's great to know! Sadly, I've never been able to keep track of one of those 'fix it all' tools... I held onto one for a month or so many years ago, but I usually loose 'em before the end of the 1st week I carry 'em!

I have a Gerber needle nose, that slides open with a flick of the wrist (one handed). Like you I have dinged the wire cutter. It has been very useful in the hospital, fishing, and around the house.

I own several Gerber knives,, and a few other items from them,, as well as a pair of their multi-tools. Excellent stuff. I also met Pete Gerber a few times at SHOT a few years back. Got some "baseball type" cards with him on them & signed by him. I also got a few autographed knives by him. Of course he is no longer with the company,,, but the products are still quite good!

I first got a Gerber multi tool probably 15-20 years ago... liked it better than a leatherman because the pliers were better... but the knife blade is a little thin and I broke it trying to pry something apart with it. So, I bought another one and a few years later did the same thing and had to buy a third.... then sent the two broken ones back to Gerber with a letter asking them to repair them if they could and I would pay for the the repair because I really like the tool. 2 weeks later I get a package in the mail... two knew tools. Gerber has me as a fan and customer for life.

When my second wife and I were still dating, her son gave me a Gerber multi-tool for Christmas. I have worn it on my belt ever since. The nylon sheath started wearing out, but I found a new one at a yard sale for a quarter. The only thing I didn't like about my Gerber was the partially-serrated knife blade. Since the components are interchangable, I went to their website to see about ordering a plain blade. No luck. Last year, I found an older Gerber at a yard sale (love those yard sales!) with both plain and fully-serrated blades. It was missing a minor component, and I got it for $1. I took out the half-serrated blade and one of the screwdriver blades from mine and replaced them with the blades from the second one. I will continue to carry it everywhere (except the Social Security office, which has a sign prohibiting not only firearms, but multi-tools, too).

btw---the little Fiskars scissors does a great job on fingernails.

no argument here, when my Gerber clipon pocket knife bit the dust after 20 years of hard use they replaced it...

I have a few Gerber knives and they are great but has anyone tried the folding bone saw? I got one for Christmas and used it the following fall deer hunt and after getting my deer and got to work, and to the point of needing the saw, on the first leg it broke and I was not very happy at that point. I will have to check the web site for warranty info.

About 15 years ago while at a wrecking yard, er auto recycler called Pick-N-Pull trying to find those rare parts for a Subaru XT6. I found a model 110 Buck knife in a patch of grass. Talk about used and abused. The blade wobbled a good 1/4 inch side to side and about a 1/2+ inch of blade was broken off. I almost tossed it back in the grass but didn't because the thought hit me that Buck Knives are supposed to have a life time warranty. When I sent the knife off to Buck I was thinking there is no way they are going to replace it. Imagine my surprise a couple of weeks later when a new knife arrived in the mail.

I still have the letter.
