I'm absolutely certain that I'm not the only retired, or current leo, who would just love give each and everyone of these rotten #@*'s a really good swift kick straight in their groin..... these %$#@ just set policing back 50 years for that department and policing in general..... as far as I'm concerned this is a direct result of Affirmative Action, lowering standards, lowering criminal history standards, etc. - - - if I started to express on here how really pizzed off this makes me the board would ban me

Then to top it all off - - - ".....Tapscott pleaded guilty to 40 counts of drug-related crimes and was sentenced to a split sentence of 16 weekends in jail and 5 years of probation."

He should be up in Dannemora or over in Attica doing 20 years............

I understand where you are coming from..... but I don't agree with the folks that use this to condemn all police, we have at least one here.

It's kind of like trying to use some undocumented criminal to justify throwing any and all of them in prison. The media loves to play up stuff like this... and some here run with it. It's also kind of like crooked politicians .... to be honest I don't know if I would have the moral strength if I was either a Leo or elected official to not go over the line. Glad I don't do those jobs even though I often pretend to be one or a lawyer her on the infernal net.

Doubt this has anything to do with lowering standards, etc as noted in first post as this guy was a law enforcement officer for 13 years.
Just a damn shame and a stain on the profession.

first off - folks used to have to get minimum 75% on the initial test before moving on, now many places have it set at 50 - 60%. Used to be no felony OR misdemeanor arrests, no more than a couple minor driving offenses, now, dui/dwi, excessive speeding, major accidents are all overlooked in many cases just to file the vacated position. For the last 20 years police officers have been leaving in droves, and the standards have been lowered considerably to get folks back on the street asap, and that's the quickest way possible.... oh ya, and then there's the minority hiring standards, I won't even get into that

".....Authorities announced Oct. 22 that Tapscott, Geneva Police Sgt. David Felice and a third man, William McGowan, had been indicted by a grand jury. Sheriff David Cirencione said the investigation found Tapscott "was regularly soliciting other members of the police department and members of the community to purchase or sell controlled substances while he was both on and off duty." Another former officer, Nathan Jacon, was also indicted in the case and arraigned one week later."

Reminds me of when I was young & working 2nd shift at a print shop in Atlanta. There was a young black guy that lived pretty much across the street from the printing plant. He & I would run into each other at a bar that was close by & hang out some. He told me one of the APD officers we saw there was "Sergeant Smart". He said if that guy rolled up on a drug deal & everyone dropped what they were holding & ran Sergeant Smart would put the dope in one pocket & the money in another & go on.
The behavior of the officer in the article sounds like that of an addict.

Well, since I'm told by the police that they have to treat all citizens as threats because "they don't know us", it only makes sense, for our safety, that we assume that all cops are crooked and dangerous until they prove otherwise.

I'm sure that everyone who knew that guy said, "Hey, he's a great guy. Always pays for lunch."

I agree that morons like that give all officers a bad name. Sadly departments end up with these people one way or another. We had a couple of real dandies at the college where I worked. One killed a hooker he thought was his girlfriend and another was so badge heavy that they were put on desk duty because of all the problems they created while on patrol.

Yup! But, most folks would say that we're lying about this... "How could that be, I don't believe you" they'd say . . . . .

I wouldn't be surprised if about another half-dozen of the officers from that department don't submit resumes to other far away agencies to try and get away from the stink that these sob's caused..... and, who knows, a few others there also may fall subject to this mess .....

It sounds to me like they used the wrong test. High aptitude or I.Q. does not mean you are even remotely qualified to do a job.
My wife was in Mensa for years and I would go with her to the social gatherings... I can promise you I don't think I met one member there that I would be comfortable as a police officer.

Back a long time ago as a senior in high school we took a number of aptitude test including what I remember as the Army or Military test... seems even though I was barely a 'C' student at best I pretty much aced that test and every recruiter in the area came after me... I came about as close as one can to gettin Marine scholarship .... fait thank goodness prevailed... did not go take the physical. I don't think I would have been good at that job....
