Gary Rossington gone

Seen them in Kentucky (multiple times), Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee and Florida. My wife and my I both call them our favorite group. He has been on the edge for years with several heart attacks, yet he always came back onstage. One of the greatest slide guitarists ever, IMO. Fly on Free Bird- you're free at last.

I woke up to that news this morning :( I didn't follow the band much after the plane crash, but what memories I have of them in the 70's, and their music to this day.

Rest in Peace, Gary. Thanks for the great memories...
Not quite my taste in music. As Jerry Clower used to say, "They look like they just come from a worm treatment."

You just can't help yourself, can you. You even make snarky comments about someone's death.

I made no remarks about his death. Just stated my opinion on the music. I am saddened by all deaths, regardless of who that might be.

I aint as old as the majority of yall, prob 12 when their plane crashed. But I always thought LS ushered in the Southern Rock style of music. I still listen to LS!!

Had a Gentleman from St. Louis come to visit; we told him (wife and I) we would take him anywhere in Florida he wanted to go.

We were expecting Key West or Disney, but he said Orange Park, Florida and Jacksonville Beach was where he would like to go.

So, we went to the cemetery in Orange Park where Ronnie Van Zant is buried to visit his grave and to the Free Bird cafe in Jacksonville Beach for dinner.

He was definitely one of the easiest visitors we have had and was a big Lynyrd Skynyrd fan.

Like it or Not; if we had acted Better in the 1960's and 1970's we would Not have the Problems We have Today. So Boomer's own your past especially when you say negative things to about Today's Kids.

Sounds like a simple man.

I'm just amazed that I lived thru the 60s and 70s, to be able to continue to mature today.

Man.
Those were the days.

To me, Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of those few bands that transcends music. Not just because of the plane crash. There is something special that is hard to quantify. The music is amazing, but they are woven into our fabric in some way I can’t quite articulate. RIP Mr. Rossington.
