I've just traded for a frontier scout in 243. It has a brand new Redfield Revenge DNS scope on it. I would really like to set it up as intended with a forward mounted scope. I have the mount and rings, just need some advice on a good scope. Thanks!0

I tried aimpoint, traditional scope mount and scout mount on my Ruger gunsite. I am leaving it as a scout mount. The aimpoint and traditional mountings worked well, but the rifle is designed around the scout scope mount.

I had a frontier a few years ago and I put the Leupold 2.5 scout scope on it and it worked really well. I would have liked a variable powered scope, but there were none at the time. It was a good brush gun for deer hunting.

Well, the "conventional" mount is ok on this rifle but due to its length it seems to be too close in and I'm not quick to mount it and get a clear view. I have an older pistol scope that's a fixed power, will it work?

I'm not sure if it would work, I read a few articles in magazines where people have used pistol scopes, but the scout scope is designed for Intermediate Eye Relief and a pistol is Extended eye Relief. I'm only familiar with the Leupold and it worked great. If the rifle hadn't been a gift from my ex and didn't remind me of how miserable she made me I would still have it and carry it during rifle season.

I currently have a Leatherwood Hi Lux LER scope on my Ruger GSR "Pig Scout". 358. No complaints. They always seem to get positive feedback. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2275761874/leatherwood-hi-lux-atr-long-eye-relief-scout-rifle-scope-2-7x-32mm-matte?cm_vc=ProductFinding
The Burris is probably worth considering too. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/430740/burris-scout-rifle-scope-2-7x-32mm-ballistic-plex-reticle-matte?cm_vc=ProductFinding
I tend to purchase from MidwayUSA because of their customer service and no hassle return policy. Good Luck..

I have two scout style rifle, a 30-30 and a 30-06. Both are set up with the Burris 2 3/4x scopes. Great setup, works well for me.
