While dry firing my 357 blackhawk 4 5/8 barrel the entire front sight fell off. Is there anything a do it yourselfer could do with this or does it need to go to Ruger. The gun shows no sign of ever being fired but I did not buy it new. No close gunsmiths that I could take it to. What holds these on? Thanks

If it is a blued gun...then it is silver soldered on.

I would call Ruger and tell them. This is one of the instances where I am sure they will have no problem making things right with no charge at all.

Take it to an ffl to ship - they should do it for $20 or so. They aren't paying more than that for shipping.

They are normally brazed or soldered on.

Look closely and see if there is any signs of it being soldered. Also there should be a little peg sticking out of the barrel that fits into a matching hole in the bottom of the sight.

If there is no or little signs of the soldering I'd call Ruger and see if they'd send you a shipping label and cover the whole charge.
After all, it's their boo boo.

If they won't do it and you've got no gunsmith handy you can try LocTite Black Max adhesive. It's really black and it will glue steel and lots of other things together like nobodies business. I've fixed a number of things with it that nothing else would fix.

It's not cheep but you can get it from Midway and other places.

Stop by your local NAPA, or equivalent and get some high strength solder from the welding supplies area. It will melt with a regular propane torch and you don't have to get it hot enough to ruin the blue. I did several and haven't had one turn loose yet.

Call Ruger and politely demand they send the shipping bill and send it back. It is not what you intended to buy nor what they intended to sell. They are pretty darn good about this understanding.

Called Ruger and they are issuing a shipping label on the repair on this one. Good service.

Call Ruger and talk to them they are very good at taking care of problems. their service is great even when it's not their fault.
