Why did a high school kid bring a knife to a track meet? Was he planning on whittling in between events? If he didn't break the rule he wouldn't be facing 35yrs in jail. It may have been a fist fight but no one would've died. I don't blame the knife but rather the decision to carry it that day and use it to kill an unarmed young man.

Remember when Jeff Metcalf, in the wake of his son's murder, was doing the whole Kumbaya thing and getting mocked for it by not only the murderer's family, but a significant portion of social media? Well, he seems to have had a change of heart.

Can anyone name the high dollar attorney hired , the one either of the go fund, con fund places seemed to generate a bunch of $$$ to hire high dollar attorneys ?
I think Collin County tax payers , that would be me, wife , my kids, grandkids, in laws , bunch of friends have and are funding the legal fees via public defenders.

Obviously he brought it with intent to do harm. Based on his actions.
I cannot see that he was charged with possessing a weapon.
He isn’t going to jail because he had a knife. He is going to jail because he killed another human being. Yes he used a knife, but knives aren’t the only way to kill somebody. He could have had a fork from his lunch or a chop stick. A screw driver.
If he used a screw driver? Would you be asking why did a high schooler have a screw driver? Was he going to screw something between events?
But merely having it in a bag doesn’t mean a kid is going to do harm. I always have a knife in my pocket. I go all kinds of places with it. That doesn’t mean I plan on stabbing someone.
As I already stated if my pants were in my gym bag there would be a knife in my bag.
I also understand he was breaking a rule by having it and possibly a law. I don’t know the local law. By participating in the sanctioned event you agree to go by their rules. I get that.
The original statement was about sportsmanship. Merely having the knife isn’t in my opinion unsportsmanlike conduct. Possessing something isn’t conduct.
But having a knife free zone is wrong. Same as having a gun free zone is wrong. The 2nd amendment says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Frankly I’m shocked at the amount of resistance I’m getting on this matter on this forum.

Isn’t it interesting that you have to prove you can’t afford an attorney to get a public defender. If you have money and pay your taxes you have to get your own.
I guess it is like food stamps?

You're right. It has to come from strong straight talking black leaders that aren't afraid to tell it like it is. Unfortunately we don't see enough of that. I WRONGLY assumed it was gofundme. In fact,, it was my Miss Penny who said it was a gofundme page.
Regardless,, his family did have an internet fundraising site where people donated a LOT of money,, that they didn't use like they professed they would use it for.
Go after them & prosecute them for fraud,, no matter what website was used.
Next,, this quote bothers the heck out of me;

It's not black people,, so many hate,, it's the PEOPLE who use race, or whatever they can to incite violence, or whatever,, AND they hide behind their race or even the people of other races who sympathize with them and stand with these types of people.
I was raised here in the South,, with a STRONG local amount of traditional thoughts. Yet,, I was also raised by my Dad to look at PEOPLE,, and how they acted towards others,, NO MATTER what their race was. My Dad often hired & paid fair wages to black people,, of whom he had respect for because they wanted to work.
And I also have several black friends,, that get upset at the PEOPLE of their own race who do the crap like is shown in the video where the guy is screaming about dead crackers.
One strong black gentleman friend,, Bruce,, (I've called him Brucie ever since we were young teens) hates it when other black people use race as a way to get by with crap. I could write volumes about GOOD black people,, here in the hillbilly south,, where they do NOT act like the types shown in so many news accounts where they scream racial slurs at others,, etc,, and get away with illegal acts.
I do not think the good people of this Forum hate black people,, but we do strongly dislike ANYBODY who breaks laws,, attacks others w/o provocation, or in general,, do the very things like those shown in the video's above. We do NOT care what color they are,, we care about what they are doing and saying,,!!

You say this like white people were falling all over themselves to decry the actions of the McMichaels. Were you up in arms about your fellow whites behavior?
And when 9/11 happened, a bunch of people like you said "Why aren't the Muslims publicly angry about this?" when they were and quite vocal about it. It's just that the people that like to say stuff like that didn't even look.
It is xenophobic to think about huge groups of people as having only one attitude or set of behaviors. That guy isn't alone, but black people don't need to make Instagram videos so you can feel better about their values. And the ones that act in a way you don't like aren't speaking for anyone but themselves.
That does not explain the absolutely insulting ways (assumably) white people on this forum speak about blacks, and that's what I was talking about. You would have to be blind or illiterate to have missed the posts that are attacks on the whole race, not just the ones that use racism as criticism.
From what I can tell from the casual and accepted racism here on a very tame gun forum, this thread started as a "Look what this terrible black did!" It was not a thread about the race-based reactions to the crime, it was just about the crime. Nevermind that there are murders every day, and white people are mostly killed by white people. The only thing that seems to have been of such great interest to you all is the races of the victim and the murderer. Three big homicide trials going on this week, but this is the one that you all find so very, very important.
