Just’a little windy today in TX & OK

Imported from Wyoming :)

Wind has been blowing like heck all day here. We also had a brief rain shower, not enough to measure, and 30 seconds of sleet. In addition to the clouds of blowing dust.

We had a light rain here a few days ago. Turned on the windshield wipers and the windshield smeared so bad that I couldn’t see the roadway. I had to constantly use the washer function to be able to see. Turns out, according to the news that evening, Texas had a windstorm two days earlier and that was the upper atmosphere dust from Texas and the rain brought the dust down . It literally rained mud. I’d never had that happen in 50 years of driving. The next day, every car and truck we saw was covered in dried mud. You Texas guys and gals have any topsoil left?

I was watching some of that on the news and imagining the feeling of being in a big rig when it topples over. I bet it's no picnic.

See my picture above. That is dirt from West Texas ... Lubbock is 300 miles west of me and and it's 200 miles east to the Arkansas border from here.

Mother nature is something else. It's hard to believe the wind can turn a big truck over. But 83 mph is a lot of wind. I was thinking it was blowing hard yesterday when it blew the cushion out of my porch chair.

My dad (born and raised on a farm in North Texas) used to jokingly tell me that "smart" farmers seeded their crops by driving to West Texas, waiting for the dust storms, and then throwing their seeds into the air. A day later, those seeds, mixed with dirt, fell on North Texas' farmland and - viola - seeding accomplished.

Dust storms are a several-times-each-spring event in West Texas.
