Ford Thunderbird

Quite a few cars had,in my opinion, their best looks for one model year.
That being the 1965 Pontiac GTO....1969 Camaro.....1969 Mustang Mach 1....1969 Plymouth Road Runner and GTX... 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda....1967 Olds 442.

Add the 56-57 Buick 2-door hard tops, 66 Ford Fairlane GT, 67 Chevelle SS and ‘70 Dodge Challenger. Some of my favorite body styles.

Wow, chrome reverse rims. The only place I even hear of those these days is in a 60's car song (can't remember the name right now). Baby moons, you are talking my language.

Well, back at that time, spoked mags and astro rims just made a debut. They were pretty expensive also.

The chrome reverse rims looked great with the baby moons on them. You couldn't see any lug nuts. Here's a picture of one.

That looks like a rebadged Miata. My wife has an 04 - I'm 6'1" and it's too small but she loves it. They only made about 600 in this color. It was rarest until the brought out a brownish/gold in 2005. They only built about 90 of those before they realized it was too ugly to sell.

My son said he thinks all new cars now look like balls of snot on wheels.
After I went "Eeeewwwwww", I agreed with him.

I remember a time when I could name most cars on the road. Now, there are so many models, with essentially nonsense names, all looking very much alike, that I don't bother to try. While many here have expressed longing for old muscle cars, I would like to own a '50s 5-window pickup.

So what was the best design year? I think across the American car industry that 1956 was my favorite year. All pleasing, eye catching styling from Ford, GM, Chrysler and Studebaker as well. Not so sure about AMC and Packard, but generally pretty nice!

I have seen multiple photos all indicating they were of the new T-Bird release. Since the photos are of completely different vehicles, I must question as if there is actually a T-Bird release pending.

That looks like a Ford Evo with a set of Thunderbird wings stuck on the nose! Evo is one of their European models I believe. I have not heard of ANY re-issue of the Tbirds from Ford.

I have a 2004 Limited Edition Pacific Coast Roadster that I bought new with 4 miles on the clock. (#442 of 1000 made & 996 sold) The one in the photo isn't mine, but it's identical.

Darned nice car!! It sticks to the road like flypaper. It's not a super quick muscle car, but it's fast enough to get out of the way if you need to. You can drive the automatic like a standard (select-shift) and it'll darn sure get the job done!

If anyone is interested, there's a family in Los Altos, California that collected vintage T-Birds. They still have several on their property, and I'm given to understand that they are for sale, as the husband (who was the main factor in the collecting of the cars) passed away fairly recently.

Sorry, it may be a nice car but I just don't like the looks. Like I said before it's all "roundy". It has no real style to it. All the new cars today look like giant rolling eggs on their sides. And like someone else said, I can't tell one new car from another these days. They all look alike. The only reason I knew the one I saw was a Thunderbird was because I was right in back of it and it said Thunderbird on it. The only thing I recognize on that car is the little port hole windows.

Yep! Jaguar S Type and the Lincoln LX shared the drivetrain. VERY smooth runner.

I am a great fan of the Art Deco era... The 2002-05 Thunderbirds reminded me of a cross between the 55-57 and something from the Art Deco era. For that reason, they do appeal to me.

My 2017 Subaru has a great heater and air conditioner, FM radio and CD player. It gets through snow just fine, starts every time, doesn't require an oil change every 3000 miles, gets 28-32 mpg, probably will never require a new muffler. This is my fourth Subaru (each bought new and kept for at least 125,000 miles. I think we all remember our youth differently than it really was and those great cars (I even have begun to think I should have stayed in the Army). Lately I've been thinking about the 1953-1956 Studebakers I could have bought for no more than $500. But I agree, a car that looked like a '57 Bel Aire would sell to us baby boomers but how could we relive those hot summer nights at the drive-in?

I really didn't mean anything as an insult to you. There is a whole lot more to a car than the body style. I'm sure it's a beautiful car. Would I turn down a free one? Of course not, I'm certainly not insane. I would even keep it and drive it. Maybe even wax it now and then. I probably would grow to love it. It's just not a body style that I would consider buying for myself. Do I think any less of you for owning it? Of course not. I could even be maybe the slightest tiniest bit jealous. :?

I probably should never walk onto a Ford car lot and sit in one. :mrgreen:

Rick, I drove by the Vanburen theater a couple months ago and it's still open. I wonder if the Magnolia drive in theater is still operating?

The Fox theater in downtown Riverside is now the Fox performing arts center. A lot of name performers appear there. The last time I was there though was when it was still a movie theater. I wanted to go there when Hugh Laurie (Doctor House) and his band were appearing there. I've seen some recorded shows of his and he's quite a musician and singer. He doesn't sound like anybody. He has his own distinctive style and sound. Sadly though, I never made it.
