Wow. My grandpa had a guy from Missouri that lived across the street from him. This was when I was about 14 YO or so. This guy, grandpa called him 'Charley' had kind of unique tastes for Sioux Falls, SD in the mid '60s. We once found a very large snapping turtle on the way to grandpa's house. This was near the river, and the turtle had been shot in the shell by some idiot. We went on and told grandpa and he jumped in his pickup and we went to get the turtle. This thing was huge, when we thought we could give him a branch to chew on whilst we hoisted him up into the pickup, he bit right through it. I don't remember how, but dad and grandpa got it in the truck and we took it to Charley. Then we heard about grandpa and grandma going to Charley's for turtle. He also was big on squirrels, and grandpa, my brother and I spent significant time together shooting squirrels for Charley. Grandpa would tell stories about Charley eating squirrel brains. I don't think grandma was very impressed.
