For Fun: How Many Equal A "Collection" vs Armory?

Being in the very low double digits I would be a lightweight to most here. It's actually a 2 part question:
1) How many equal a collection?
2) We often hear of some dumbass government agent claiming that they busted somone with an "armory". How many is which?

When I hear armory, I see hundreds of duplicate guns. AR15's, AK47, MP5's etc funded by a government.

Anything in private ownership is a collection, regardless of size IMO.

Well, since I really have no rhyme or reason to my firearms, and most aren't martial in origin, I just call mine my conglomeration.

A collection has a focus and is deliberate. A collection has a name or title.

An accumulation is more random.

To muddy the waters: One could say “This is my random collection of guns I’ve accumulated in my life”.

The number doesn’t matter. Even 1 can be a collection.

An Armory or Arsenal are both buildings or facilities, (usually government owned.) Both words imply weapons of war. Not hunting, target or competition.

An Armory has groups of duplicate arms, kept ready for war. Storage and maintenance.

An Arsenal is a manufacturing facility.

I also cringe when I see news footage of massive seizures of guns and ammo . That are barely starter sets.

A gun collection usually has a great many variety of different makes and calibers, old and new, rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers.
An armory would be a room of many of the exact same weapon.
Police departments, army reserve centers, and the Ntaional Guard have armories.

an armory is numerous models. M14/1911/50/M243/226, ETC...
an armory is stocked for a specific purpose and numbers vary based on the task. (i/e: police dept with 100 cops = 150 pistols with extras.)(82nd airborne = 10,000 M16, 10,000 m243, etc..)

a collection is one design, in many options. a collection is usually never finished and the collector spends his life attempting to complete it. (i/e: me = winchester model 50/high standards.) collections start low, and build. collections start with two. then youre hooked.

So true. They use the most controversial words they can. To paint the worst possible picture. It’s called agenda setting.

Also adding to the confusion, if words are missused enough their colloquial definitions change.

Agreed 100%. Despite the different great answers offered here, any media covered police action where a gun owner is involved includes his/her "armory". This was one of the reasons that I asked the question.

I'm thinking "an accumulation". I am never looking to acquire anything but, on occasion, something just throws its self on on my doorstep. Two weeks ago on another forum a gentleman was trying to help out a widowed neighbor by selling a collection of near complete 1903A3 Smith Corona Rifle parts. I advised the gent that it he would purchase the missing parts and assemble them the rifle would be worth $1400. He said he didn't want to got to all that trouble so I bought the parts for $500. The bolt assembly, magazine spring & follower, trigger gard & floor plate, and extractor were missing. I had a new stripped Remington bolt which headspaced great, a reparked floor plate asm. I bought the missing parts for less than $150. In spite of having to hound the local USPS office for my Monday's mail which included the SARCO shipment (no delivery because of snowy "road" conditions) I had to go to the PO to pick up my mail (some tax documents) I was finally able to complete the reassembly and test fire it yesterday morning. Conclusion, I need another safe.
