I was going to skimp on this one a little - How does the frame size compare
with a SAA?
Too many irons in the fire for that out lay at the moment.

I'm a cheapskate. I cut down a Safariland version of the Threepersons for a Colt SAA 5 1/2" to fit my Ruger 4 5/8". It fits like it was made for it.

Depends on the maker sometimes. Some list the same part no. holster for Colt SA & Ruger BH. Others? I have a couple of the mid frame FT's & they fit nicely in newer or less worn holsters for regular BH's. Thinking they would be loose, but not in my case.
If I were to order from a maker that had different holsters for Ruger & Colt I would order for a Colt New Frontier if they listed it. If not, only a Colt SAA or Ruger BH, I'd order the BH holster.
I don't intend to make it sound so complicated, but I went through the same thing, wanting a holster that fit really well, & not seeing any listings especially for the flat top.
When you get right down to it........a holster for a regular BH should be fine. YMMV

^^^ What he said, it depends. When I make a holster for the SAA/New Vaquero, a Blackhawk or New Frontier aren't going to fit. Same for one from El Paso Saddlery. Others are a little more roomy.

His name is Henry Cassady Jr., and he does fine work on a Threeperson's style holster. As far as I know he only does a Threeperson's style holster so he would be good at it. I have bought 3 from him in a short period of time and every holster was downright excellent, and his price shipped will meet your requirements unless you find a buddy that gives you one. If he doesnt have what you want, contact him and in about a week the mailman will deliver a small box. He does the strap like in the picture above and what I got, a hammer thong. One other option is belt loop size which I prefer a 1.5" slot.

He stated to me he doesn't make a holster specifically for a flattop, but I know a flattop will fit snug in one of his new BH size holsters. He also told me a flattop is not a good fit in his Colt SAA holster. I didn't really ask why as I just ordered what he suggested, and I fit like a holster should.

I've had issues with the front sight on my FT's being too tall for some SAA holsters. Just depends on the holster and maker.

Shortly after purchasing the first of my two 5 1/2" .44 SPC Flattops, I bought one of these Galco holsters at Cabela's for it (scroll down for the SA version):

It fits my Flattop perfectly and snugly. The gun is secured in place with a leather tab that slips over the hammer spur, yet is easily flicked off with a thumb before drawing. However, the Wheelgunner holster only works with Flattops with the standard plowhandle grips, as the tab is too short to reach the hammer spur on a Bisley version.
