Five .44 Specials

I was posting in a .44 Special thread over on the Firing Line. Got me to thinking that I never took a photo of all five of mine together. So I hauled them out and took a quick photo. Since a couple of them are Rugers, thought people here might want to see them.

The Ruger OM used to be a .357 until the custom work was done to it. Has a 5.1" barrel on it that was on a .44 Magnum. My gunsmith turned it down in a lathe to more or less match the diameter of the original .357 barrel. We decided to just bead blast the grip frame and make it a two tone gun. I like it.

The other Ruger is a regular FT with the 5.5" barrel.

Others are the Uberti Bisley I bought from Craig, a Rossi 720 that I use all the time around the ranch, and my daily carry gun, a S&W M296 Centennial Airweight.

I used to have two of the 720's. The adjustable sighted one shown plus one that was DAO, bobbed hammer, etc. The gunsmith that built the .44 Special custom for me really liked both of the 720's and wanted to buy either one. I wouldn't normally have sold a gun but I owed him a favor for all the things he did for me. So I sold him the DAO one. I had purchased it thinking I might CCW it but those 720's are solid stainless steel and heavier than I was willing to carry. Especially if you put it side by side with that 296!

Nice collection! I especially like the Uberti Bisley. Uberti makes fantastic guns but the case colors are touch and go. Yours are fantastic. I have a few. Sorry. No Rugers in the bunch. That Colt with the nickel cylinder is factory. Cylinder is numbered to the gun. The gun in the bottom photo is a Gren conversion to .44 Special black powder only on an Italian gun remarked with Colt markings. This is one of my favorite guns. I made the rig that has aged pretty good. Again. That's an outstanding group of guns you have in my second favorite caliber.
