Fitting grips question

Have bought a pair of ivory grips for my bisley, and have a question about fitting them.

The holes in the grips that fit over the locator pin near the butt are a bit too large, and allow the grip to wiggle a bit. How do you tighten the fit of the grip to the pin?

Wax the pin and surrounding area with paste wax and let it dry.Fill the hole in one panel with 5 minute epoxy,put the grip on and keep it lined up till the epoxy sets.Then turn it over and do the other side.

I basically do the same thing EXCEPT I use a Vasline applied with a q-tip for the slip.

I have heard of the Wax method, but also understand to apply it and leave it. I just never had enough faith. :roll:

First time I did it with the Vasline, I was a little worried... Not now,,, works like a charm.

The KEY is apply it, get the panel on where you want it and then LEAVE IT ALONE.

I also use Vaseline and get good results. One thing I have found thou is that epoxy is a gap filler and works best when it has a little bulk to it. I open the registration holes in the grip panels so they are about 3/32" to 1/8" larger than the pin in the frame.

I've used hot melt glue, it's a little more forgiving.

Those are usally refered to as bonded ivory grips. I've had them before and was much more pleased with them over just straight injected plastic grips. although they had no grain they seemed to have an attractive color cast to them and warmed to your hand quickly.

I'm sure these are bonded ivory, pretty color, feel nice. Just need to get them fit.
