Just got back from the range and finished cleaning the guns I shot.

First time out for my 4-in GP-100 and for my S&W 642.

The GP-100 was quite easy to shoot. The first couple cylinders I shot single action, then switched to double action.

The 642 was fun to shoot, didn't recoil too badly. But it was hard to hit anything with it. I will need a lot more practice.

Interesting that the trigger on the GP-100 is much lighter than the trigger on the 642.

The 642's trigger is smooth, but takes enough force that I can see the gun wiggling around as I pull it. Probably some dry firing will help with that problem.

The GP-100 DA trigger is very nice.

Not sure what the proper term is, but I think you would say it "staged".

As you pull the trigger, just before it released, it got slightly harder to pull.

If I go slow, I can treat the DA GP-100 just like single action -- knowing just when it will shoot.

In general, with no practice, I can shoot the GP-100 just as well DA as SA.

I definitely need more range time for both guns, but I'm happy with the results of this first outing.

I really like the dark wood insert on the blue GP. One of my Daughters has the 4in GP in stainless and it is a good shooter. Another Daughter has the SP-101 / 1 1/2in and it is a lot harder to shoot. Grip and trigger pull are very important on a small gun. I have the SP 3in and it is easier to shoot well than the 1 1/2in.
One note though, if you really like the small frame shrouded hammer, try the Ruger LCP. It has a lot better trigger than the 642. Another Daughter has the LCP 357 :)

I know what you mean about the trigger on thr GP100. Once you get used to it it's pretty nice and as you say easy to shoot in DA mode. I have the 6 inch but wished I'd have bought the 4 inch. Perhaps in the future.

I have an LCR-357. I find it hard to shoot also.

The first time I took it out, I did about the same as I did with the 642.

Each time I shoot the LCR it gets I get a little better, but still have a ways to go yet.

Curious, I always thought the grey/black laminates looked horrible on the single action guns and rifles, but they look really good on a blued GP. I'll have to get a set.

I seem to prefer the 4 inch over the 6 inch (my first 357) for most situations. I just can't seem to let it go. I find shooting it to be such a pleasure that it will always be with me. it is just so darn accurate. I just added the 4 and 2 3/4 to the collection.

I have the 3" fixed sight and 4" adjustable sight GP`s Thae are both just super shooters. I was surprised at how accurate the 3" is. It is almost as accurate as the 4" and that is saying a lot. The 4" is one of the most accurate handguns I have ever fired.

Love the GP!
With mine (new last spring) the DA is very smooth, I haven't noticed any stacking.
I'm doing the best DA shooting of my life with the GP100 after switching to the old style grip with inserts.
I don't stage, I pull straight through.
Love your grip inserts.
