First range outing with the Vaquero. Discovered fairly quickly that it didn't like 5.5 grains of Trail Boss. Switched to the 6.0 grain loads. Results much more satisfactory.

Final load: 205 grain rnfp cast bullet/6.0 grains Trail Boss/CCI 300 primer/Winchester brass/bullet seated to the crimping groove, but no crimp.

12 shots at 15 yards - 1 flyer (3rd shot of first 6-round group.) I am so hacked about that flyer...

Nice shooting there. Is this a New Vaquero? or an Original Vaquero that you found? I've found I like 7.5g of TB under 250g RNFP or 255g SWC bullet. Used to run 6.0g which was ok. Now I settled on 7.0g of Green Dot under 250g RNFP for my general shooting....

Enjoy! (Looks like you already are :) )

Note, never have shot less than 250g bullets in my .45 Colt revolvers, so no load data here.

It's an original large-frame Vaquero that got traded in on an AR rifle at my local gun shop. They know I'm into single actions, so they set it aside for me to look at.

good shootin. Trail Boss is good stuff. I'm not even a CAS shooter, but I found that TB shoots really well with cast boolets. Unique does well too, but TB seems to burn cleaner. in these days of component shortages, I just use whichever I have on hand ...

8) . Good to see your Original Vaquero work so well. My original Vaquero needed its throats reamed to get the accuracy yours is getting and it shot a bit left! Made some sight adjustments and it works fine now.

Huhwhat? Asked what bullet weight???
I use 6.0 gr. Trail Boss under both 200 and230 cast bullets.
The 200 is a Lee mold and the 230 is the excellent RCBS .45-230-CA mold.
The 230`s shoot well in my .45 Colts at .452"and in my .45 ACP after I run them through a Lee push through sizer die and reduce them to .451".

Short don't equal less accurate. My Sig Sauer P220 only has a 4" barrel, and it's a seriously accurate mama. My wife's Walther P22 has a 3-1/2 inch barrel, and it holds some pretty close groups.

" This, by the way, is the best I could do with 5.5 grains of Trail Boss... "

This is why we hand load. You don`t get that choice with factory loads.
