I know there have been a several threads regarding this topic, and I have been in sympathy with those misplacing an item and being frustrated that it cannot be located.

But I have normally been able to locate items usually within a few minutes or at most a couple of hours.

If I cannot locate the item easily, then I stop and look for something else and BINGO! there it is.

NOT SO these last three (3) weeks. I started carrying a model 36 as a second duty sidearm, a few weeks ago.

It is a little scuffed, some honest wear, mechanically sound, and I qualified with a score of 100%.

Now I have a set of grips that kinda neat, they are magnetic and make the 36 more comfortable.

I know I had them, could not find them to save my life. After several weeks and really starting to tear the room up, I finally located them as they had slid off the bed and was between the cover and other clutter.

I realize this may be subject to discussion, but it's nice to know I'm not losing it after all.

Hi,

Such "relocations" in my house are blamed on the work of gremlins. Two of them have four feet, and one of those two is especially adept at moving things to places it will remain hidden for rather long periods of time! It may be an omen, perhaps a comment from above about my housekeeping? ;)

The "regular" gremlins often return stuff as soon as I quit looking for it...

I once lost a Colt Woodsman pistol. I thought I remembered setting it on the toolbox of my truck. Crap, gone forever....
Turns out, I really set it on the console in the truck. I found it about a year later when I finally decided it was time to/bad enuff to vacuum out.....It must got shook down in the crack between the seat and console on a rough road. Wheeeeeew..

I looked for the LCR I carried for quite a while. Had broken out an SP101 to carry for a while but I couldn't figure out what happened to the LCR. More than once I thought I might need to call the police dept and get it on the record it had been stolen but I couldn't figure out how that could have happened either. I was driving somewhere with the wife and she asked me if I had looked in the console. Then I remembered stopping off at the court house and couldn't take it in and left it in the console. Well at least it's back. :)

I have a two legged critter who loves to hide stuff from me. Me and this two legged critter have had many arguments over remembering where such items were put. My fault, a little. I have a tendency of laying stuff down and then forgetting about it. Then Judy decides it has been in that spot too long and relocates it. Guess what, My wife has no clue what Teflon tape is, or masking tape, or the difference in a plier and a wrench. Arggghhh. It drives me nuts. We deal with it but I think she is the cause of my high blood pressure. LOL.

A couple of months ago I somehow lost my computer's cordless mouse. It was next to the keyboard that night when I shut down the computer and went to bed, I get up next morning and it's gone. What the hell? I looked high and low with no luck. I finally gave up and dug out an old corded mouse to use in the interim. Three days later I come home from work and find my cat batting it around the living room having great time! :D

Came home from the second East Coast Gathering and could not find my "Ultimate" magazine loader. Looked everywhere (or so I thought). Contacted Contender and ask him to look around for it, (thought it may have ended up in his shooting area). Nope..."not there" he wrote. Tore the car apart, nowhere to be found. Some many months later I was getting ready to pack my 'couple days away' suitcase and noticed a lump in one of the outside pockets. Guess what was in there. Yep, the loader. How it got there I have no idea.

left my remington 3200 out on the skeet field and drove 90 miles home. had a msg waiting for me on the machine....hey bob! forget something?
heck, i didnt even have a chance to know i misplaced it!

I do not think there is a person out there who hasn't lost or misplaced something. What's worse than misplacing something is losing something right in front of your eyes.

Every morning, I enjoy a glass of chocolate milk as I scan the computer. We have 6 cats. Where we are,, the cats want to be. Some are a bit jealous of one another. Well, about 3 months ago, my empty glass, with a spoon in it was on the desk beside me. One cat, being chased by another landed on the desk in such a way as to cause my empty (thankfully) glass & spoon to "scatter." Well, the glass stayed on the desk, and the spoon,,, well it disappeared.
For 3 days, at various times, I hunted all around the desk. I hunted in places that would seem impossible for it to be. Finally, I surrendered & knew that one day, when we would be doing something else, the spoon would reappear. Just about a week ago, Miss Penny decided to clean up her side of the desk & her "clutter." Lots of moving stuff on top of the desks and a bit of shuffling under the desks. While she was doing this, I decided to replace my chair mat at the same time. Lo & behold, laying in plain view, in a place I had previously cleaned out & triple checked, was the spoon. We came to the conclusion that in all her moving stuff around,,, the spoon got uncovered from it's hiding place & landed on the floor.
Or, that dern Leprechaun that likes to mess with me around here decided to finally return my spoon.

A while back, I picked up tool box for a machine gun, with its original key. Before I could send it to Contender to give to a friend, I lost the key. I was sure it occurred when I hosed out 60 years of accumulated dirt. I checked and rechecked the area where I did the washing, combing through the grass and going over it with a powerful magnet. Nada. Couple of weeks later, I find the key---laying on the carpet by my computer chair. :?

My theory is many things change shape when they get lost. That bottle opener you can't find is now a metal coat hanger, that key you were looking for is now a bunch of paperclips, that extension cord you know you have is now a bunch of pennies and a couple of empty plastic pop bottles. :D :D

My wife looses stuff all the time. She is very strong in our Catholic faith so prays to St Anthony to help her find the missing item.

I lost a CZ 22 10 round mag about a year ago and tore my room apart looking for it. Was at least 6 months later that I happened to find it under a small divider wall between my desk and the cabinet where I keep all my mags and range bag. No more room under the wall than enough for the mag to fit.

Why is it you always find thing in the last place you look?

The room is our second bedroom but essentially serves as my "mancave". The is a ton of clutter on the bed and that was where I put the grips. They slid off the edge and was between the boxes and ruffly thingy around the base of the bed. So it was on the floor and hiding effectively.

I really do need to clean tha..........., Lord, what am I thinking?

Now that is a theory that seems logical. I always seem to find a bunch of irrelevent junk while searching for the missing item. Now I know that my lost object has changed into something meaningless. Hiding there in plain sight. It also explains why you find your lost object later in a place where you already looked. It has returned to its original form. Somehow this transformation seems to be affected by the purchase of a new replacement.

I've a coffee mug that went AWOL a few days back. It's currently on my driving me nuts list.

Me, too! Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

I lost a stainless chief's special s&w once for a year. Turns out it was in the door pocket of my old 78 ford pickup. Never reported it missing luckily. It was a no paper gun. Reporting it missing would have put it back on the books.

I battle the Gnomes in my house and garages. I think there are more than one and that they plot actively against me. However, we(Wife helps me..) use and apply a modified St. Anthony prayer.......... and it never fails to help and does so for others as well, even when sincerely applied from remote locations....... 8) :!:

*sigh* If you had a drawer for your things and put them there they wouldn't be in the way so someone would have to move them.

Granpa told me the answer to "Why is it you always find thing in the last place you look?" was that if it was somewhere else you DID look it wouldn't fit the definition of "lost".....

although I favor the notion of 'pleomorphism' and 'shape shifting' for items during the early phases of becoming defined as officially "lost" I have some evidence of at least some items transmogulating into a different dimension for a period of time.

I've been using an experimental procedure recently, whereby I visualize the last place I actually SAW/FELT/HANDLED/USED the item....and then move myself physically to that area to explore the immediate region, in the theory that by 'looking in the last place first' I can travel back in time to when I actually posses the item.

Seems to work an astonishing percent of the time.

Although there are those times when such advanced protocol doesn't work and the question of trickery or some form of time bandits must be involved.....
