Finally, a .45ACP shot shell that actually works.

At those distances the snake could care less about you and I could care less about the snake and let if go on it's way.
Yep agreed. I'd rather walk away than kill a creature. As old Elmer Keith said about African Dangerous game, They are not dangerous at 100 yards.

Snakes are not dangerous to me at 5 yards, if they are not advancing, I just move away. Water moccasins don't always follow that guideline. I let the copperheads move on.

I've never seen a moccasin/cottonmouth chase anyone like some say. Typically when I came across them they were already coiled and if unknowingly stepping too close suddenly their mouth opened like a hungry baby bird. I've had them slither towards me before but didn't move and they went on by. I haven't seen one in years. Don't have them where I live now. Not near by anyway. Copperheads are around but rare. When I first moved here and put up a lot of bird feeders we were having Timber Rattlers visit. I thought that was going to be an issue with my dogs. Turns out the bears were the bigger issue. Snakes didn't harm a thing. The bears tore everything up. Haven't seen any venomous snakes on my property in several years. The bears are always here. Lots of Black Snakes, Ribbon Snakes, Garter Snakes. I let them be hoping they will help with the mice and moles. Same as I do/did with Rattlers and Copperheads. I can't think of a reason to shoot them just because they are there.

Back in the day I did hunt Rattlers in Southern California. But that was for chow. Never shot them. We had a conduit pole rigged with piano wire.

Over the years, 6 out of 6 of my farm dogs got bitten by rattlesnakes in the yard around my cabin and metal shop building. Luckily, with treatment, all survived. Some were never the same, after being bitten.

I’ve been fortunate (and very careful) to avoid being bitten myself. Our hospital isn’t very good and antivenin is very expensive.

I happily destroy any rattlesnake I find in my yard or outbuildings.

No disrespect intended to anyone, and I do want you all to know that I understand not wanting to unnecessarily kill any living creature....Thing is though, poisonous snakes ain't allowed to live on my property any longer than it takes me to find and kill them because my Grandchildren play here. It's just that simple, and it's not something that is up for discussion....I lived in S/E Texas for 50 years and for 50 years I was constantly battling copperheads so my dogs, kids, and grandkids could be safe. Now I'm back home in Dixie and it's rattle snakes and moccasins...Same song, second verse, same remedy, and just for the record, I seldom have a hoe handy.

This is my discussion and it's up for discussion...You must have an infestation. I have Timber Rattlers and Copperheads here. I just take preventive measures. I don't let the leaves pile up or the brush overgrow. Bird feeders are are now limited and only on top deck to easily bring inside every night because of bears. As for the kids we are always outside with them and the area they will be in is cleared of brush, leaves, etc,,, Nobody will have a chance to go unseen long enough to go poking hands into/underneath places snakes or other bites/stings may be. Only have one dog now. My property isn't fenced and we have too many critters on the woods that set off his prey drive so he's mostly on a leash when taken out to do his "business". He's on a long lead if we are on the lower deck, in the yard, lower level property or fire pit area. I could go looking for and hunting/killing snakes all day to protect us.....but taking precaution is key in my opinion. Snakes are going to be where they are going to be....they are too good at what they do for a reason. We are just in their way as an another obstacle and something to stay away from if possible. I'm sure I walk near, past, and over them often. Nature's critters will normally win if you fight them......they will mostly ignore you if you give them space......except bears.....the bears I swear have a very sarcastic way about them and seem to challenge your latest and greatest bear prevention measures.....😅

Well then, you do you, and I'll do me. This thing is already headed for a cliff, so that's all I have to say on the matter.......My apologies to the group for participating in the high-jacking of my own thread.

I will and so should you... I guess....America! You brought it up on a public forum for discussion and solicited discussion but the again you said it wasn't up for discussion so there's no reason for you to apologize?......

In the words of Archie Bunker "Oh geez Edith let's not start something I can't finish"

No, you brought up "save the snakes". Prior to your post #30 no one else had mentioned it. Maybe you should start your own thread about the moral implications of killing poisonous reptiles. Mine was only about pistol caliber shot-shells, see the difference?....At any rate, as goofy as it may sound, I do still apologize for my participation in hijacking my own thread. It was bad form on my part.

Get you some chickens. They'll eat all the smaller snakes an keep them from becoming large ones.
Academy has CCI 45 acp shot shells in stock. I noticed them yesterday after folks in another thread said they had trouble finding them.

If Dixie ain't a lot like Texas I don't want to go! If Dixie ain't a lot like Texas I'd just assume stay home! 😎
That sounds like a take off on an old Hank Williams Jr song, only you've got it backwards. He didn't...but that's OK. Folks that don't live in Dixie don't get it, and never did really. Not saying that Texas is bad because it certainly is not. I lived there for 50 years myself and liked it fine. It just wasn't home, that's all.

...And in the mean time, the dern snakes will be eating my chicken eggs. Been there and done that too, but thanks for the suggestion..LOL.

Your right, I was using Hank Jr's song to make the funny.😁

Yet I would have sworn that Texas resides in Dixie.🤔

Now I'm a bit befuddled. 🤯

Is it that Mississippians exclude us Texans from the fold?😦
Am I stealing valor when I display the flag?🧐
Is the South divided?🥺
Tell me it isn't so!🤠

You are technically correct....And yes, geographically speaking, Texas is located in the southern portion of the USA. Her culture however, is a quite different from what I knew growing up in the South....Just as one example; I was 25 years old when I left Alabama for Texas, and up until then, I had no idea that there was a such a thing as a cafe that didn't have grits or cornbread..LOL.

I was raised on cornbread but had no idea what grits were. But rest assured that there are lots of Texans that eat grits.

Now Louisiana is also from the South and definitely a part of Dixie but they do thing differently as well. But over in southeast Texas they do a lot of stuff the same way Louisianains do.

Anyway in Texas alone there are different accents from one region to another. Plus they also have different eating habits too.

And I know a lot of people from southeast Texas (kinfolk included) that eat grits but I was raised in the hill country around Austin and grits were not as prevalent for sure.

Anywho, glad to hear I still get to fly the flag without being looked upon by my brethren as some kind of want to be of sorts.🤠

P.S. - I shot the poison snakes because the Bible tells me so! See how I used another song to make my point! Not to try and highjack this thread but after all this is America and we are to have freedom of religion in these parts. But I do not bother the rest of the critters and seek to live at peace with them. After all it just ain't right to go around killing without Scriptural guidance.

And neither are sweet!
Yuck, sweet cornbread is so wrong. And any grits I've eaten tasted just fine without putting Yankee syrup over them. Seriously I have seen Yankees pour syrup on cornbread too. Talk about an Abomination.

But for real if you want some good cornbread get a package of Mexican cornbread and instead of using milk replace it with Albert's Hot Sauce from Kilgore Texas. Make sure it is rated HOT . This will change the cook time by five or ten minutes, so watch to make sure the top cooks through.

CCI has come out with a shot shell that is powerful enough to operate a full size 1911. I tested these in both of my RIA 1911A1-FS pistols. Both guns fed all 7 rounds out of their magazines and functioned perfectly....Powerful, evenly dispersed patterns of #9 shot, plus the plastic shot container punched a full caliber hole through the heavy cardboard target backing...Aluminum cased, boxer primed, probably not reloadable.
If anyone here is interested, here is a link with more details:

Been rolling my own for 50 years from -06 brass, a little time consuming but works very well, trim inside ream form a sharp shoulder at .898 and get more shot capacity. Plus the case is reloadable.

Thanks for that information! Aluminum cases should not be reloaded.

That was during the WWII era, but I don't know how long the were kept in service. I used to see them for sale several years ago, but haven't in a long time...Anyhow, the biggest difference in those and the newer CCI versions is that the ones that CCI markets utilize aluminum cases, have plenty enough power to function the 1911 pistol, and are non-corrosive.

With the age of the WW2 ammo, one could experience misfires, and hang fires. Hang fires are very dangerous, of course.
