I find it easier to just carry 2 (or3) guns in different calibers. An S&W J-frame with snake shot, a P-365 9mm, for medium size critters, and a 1911 .45 for large critters. That's not carved in stone tho. I have other options.

^^^ My answer to that was a S&W 624 with two 'snake' loads(summer only) and four 240 swaged lead HP.
The only time I really needed to use the snake loads distance was so short that the ruptured shotcap remained stuck in the snake. On the plus side, not as much concern about having a solid lead slug bouncing around.
