To tumble lube a nice 300gr 44 with a good lube groove. Just thought I'd try. I tumbled them last night with LLA and sized them this morning to seat the gas check. Then tumbled them again. It will probably do as good as a traditional lube/size but it still doesn't seem right :)

Casting snob? lol

I even tried a few rejects from when the mold wasn't up to temp. This Mihec with those little crimp grooves has to be run hot to fill them out

Just cos it's the way I am, were those my bullets I'd fill those lube groves with lube.

I once read an article ( way pre-internet ) where the author said most folks use to much bullet lube. I didn't buy his ideas then and I don't now.

I got nothing against Lee LA lube, but not as primary lube on a naked bullets. Mostly I use it to add lube to the factory lubed swaged bullets. Works great that way.

Let us know how they work.

Hi,

I've used LLA on "bare" cast bullets for quite some time. It works from "well enough" to "excellently" w/ non gas checked designs (consider the usual gun/bullet/fit possibilities!) And when used w/ gas checked rifle bullets at considerably higher velocities than pistol bullets, I've experienced no leading or other difficulties.

In my book, that means it's done its job. No snobbery involved... :D

Thats been my experience, too. :)

As an aside, and this is a tribute to LLA, when I re-melt my reclaimed tumble lube bullets, the alox has held on to the bullets even as the bullets start to liquify! It takes a bit for the alox to burn off, and I suspect makes a pretty good flux for the pot as it's burning off.

For higher velocity loads that I've already lubed, I'll dip boolits in LLA to the crimp groove and let them dry before loading. Works quite well.

J Miller,

I've done them the other way(right way) as well. I was just experimenting with them. If I had a way to crimp the GC I could pan them as well. As it is, I'd have to use the push thru Lee, or the GC seater with my 4500 adjusted to crimp only. If I go thru all that, I might as well run the handle on the 4500 down a bit farther.

Of course, I only did 20 so I was pretty sure I wasn't going to be keen on it anyway. If I only took one pass through the push thru sizer it would be better. But lube, size to seat check, lube again takes a while.

I don't think you will regret the lube. I use it with all my cast bullets.I shoot pure lead with it (medium loads) and have not had as much leading as I have had with commercially lubed bullets. In some cases(better guns) have had little to no leading. Looks like you may have more on them than you need unless you are going to "load them pretty hot"just my humble opinion.I use an old cotton sock, dribble a little down in the sock on the bullets and squish them around with my hands. They come out with just a light coating like the old 22 bullets we used to get.So far works great. I have a lube sizer but prefer the LLA method.

Go over to castboolits and see RANCH DOG'S new method of lubing. He now tumble lubes, seats gas check and sizes, then DIP LUBES by hand and sets them on a cookie sheet, then uses a WAXMEISTER (pan lube tool available at castboolits) to remove excess lube.

Basically, if you can see the LEE LIQUID ALOX coating, you have enough of it...or maybe too much!

Miha sure makes nice moulds. My two current favorites are the H&G 503 clone in brass (wish I'd got the hollow point) and the 44 hollow base wadcutter. There ain't no flies on his aluminum moulds..got a bunch of them too. Did you sign up for one of the 429640 clones...good shooting boolit in my VAQUEROS and Cowboy rifles.
